Today in Parliament, I raised concerns about the balance between skilled migration, youth unemployment, and housing pressures in South Australia:
▪️2,250 skilled migration visas granted this year - every new arrival will need a home.
▪️No response from the Minister on housing, despite growing pressure on affordability for local families.
▪️Nearly 40% of 24-year-olds are not fully engaged in work or study.
▪️Government highlighted trade schools - but no clear plan, timeline, or evidence these are reducing youth unemployment.
South Australia does need skilled workers, but we also need to:
▪️Train and employ our own young people, and
▪️Address rising housing demand and costs.
This is about getting the balance right so South Australians aren’t left behind or priced out.
