Would anyone with a Times Literary Supplement subscription be able to download their review of _Spectral Sounds_ for me, by any chance? For some reason, I am having some trouble subscribing and cannot access it... 🙏 the-tls.co.uk/articles/spect…

I am so proud to be part of this wonderful collection! 🤩
This book uncovers penny titles which have, until now, been largely neglected from literary discourse revealing the cultural, social and literary significance of these working-class texts. Edited by @GothProf and @VictorianPopFic, ‘Penny Dreadfuls and the Gothic’ is out now!

My own chapter, entitled "'Embalmed pestilence', 'intoxicating poisons': Rhetoric of contamination, contagion, & the Gothic marginalisation of penny dreadfuls by their contemporary critics" is based on part of my doctoral thesis 📝

I presented the very first version of this in 2019 at the @BAVS_UK conference in Dundee, and the response and feedback I received motivated me and helped me believe in the quality of my work, though it was still early in my doctoral studies. It's lovely to see it now published 🥰

Gathered in 'Spectral Sounds' are fourteen tales exploring noises from invisible presences, ghostly voices, possessed technology and the power of extreme sound or silence, featuring pioneering pieces from B. M. Croker, Algernon Blackwood, and Edith Wharton. 🔇
