During this difficult time, we stand together in solidarity to fight for our dignity, safety, and collective liberation. On May 20th, come hear from leaders at the forefront of that fight, and from these artists advocating through their music and words. bit.ly/BrightNight2021
Constellation’s mission is to fight poverty in the Twin Cities – and we cannot talk about poverty without talking about racism, power imbalances, and policies that harm, traumatize, and target communities of color.
We grieve the death of Daunte Wright, yet another Black man killed at the hands of law enforcement in our community. Please visit our website to read the Constellation team's full statement on the death of Mr. Wright.
The longer you are unemployed, the harder it is to get a job. And when it comes to fighting poverty, employment is one of our key, intersecting impact areas.
Here are 3 facts about rapid employment and how it can give people the support they need to quickly enter the workforce.
For example, one study finds that the likelihood of finding a job after being unemployed for 2-3 months is somewhere between 75-80%; however, the likelihood of finding a job after being unemployed for 10 months is between 35-45%.
This is where Rapid Employment comes in. These are specific, responsive programs that assist job seekers who are unemployed or underemployed with the skills and individual support services they need to find a job soon after first becoming unemployed.
To raise the living standards of people experiencing poverty, we must focus on critical impact areas and the intersections between them. For example, if more than 50% of your income goes towards housing, you are more likely to be at risk of becoming unsheltered?

And the cost burden of housing is increasing. In 2000 the percent of individuals spending less than 30% of income on housing was 76.2% and fell to 68.1% in 2010-2014.
Society’s current approach to eliminating poverty is clearly not working. Low-income families deserve access to the most impactful services to help them break the cycle of poverty.
Here are four unacceptable facts about poverty in the Twin Cities we're working to eliminate:

3. Communities of color have borne the brunt of this trend. For example, you are nearly six times more likely to be living in poverty in the Twin Cities if you are Black than if you are white—the largest such disparity of any major metropolitan area in the country.
