Today, as we observe Peace Officers Memorial Day during National Police Week, we pause to honor the law enforcement officers who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to their communities. We remember their courage, their families, and the legacy they leave behind. We will never forget. This week we also recognize the deputies, officers, dispatchers, and professional staff who continue to serve with dedication every day. To those who wear the uniform, those who support them, and the families who stand beside them, thank you. We understand the frustration around unsafe e-moto riding in our community, and we’re listening. The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office has created a way for residents to anonymously document unsafe e-bike, electric motorcycle, or dirt bike activity. Here’s the IMPORTANT distinction: The issue is not traditional e-bikes. The growing concern involves high-powered electric motorcycles, often marketed online as “e-bikes,” that exceed Colorado’s legal 750-watt limit with pedals attached to make these vehicles appear bicycle-like. Many of these vehicles can reach speeds of 30 to 65 mph and are legally classified as motor vehicles, meaning they require registration, insurance, and a driver’s license. Our goal is safety for riders, pedestrians, drivers, and neighborhoods across Jefferson County. To learn more or anonymously document unsafe activity, please visit jeffcosheriffco.gov/safety/e…

At JCSO Headquarters, snow depth is currently 2½ evidence markers. Case status: still winter??? ❄️ We need the moisture, but roads are slick across Jeffco. Slow down, leave extra room, and don’t let your commute become Exhibit A. Stay safe out there. #cowx

Jeffco students: want a fun, FREE hands-on experience with law enforcement? Parents, if your kids are curious, adventurous, or just need a break from the couch… check out our JCSO Youth Academies. There are two opportunities… one for high school kids and one for some of the younger kids. Jefferson County Sheriff Reggie Marinelli is offering Jeffco students the chance to join the Teen Youth Academy. The 3-day academy is from June 17-19 and is FREE for Jeffco teens ages 14-18, students entering 9th-12th grade. Participants will get an up close look at law enforcement with SWAT, drones, tasers, jail operations, patrol operations, bomb squad, and more. NEW THIS YEAR: For the younger students, join us for the Elementary School One Day Youth Academy on June 16. This is for students ages 9-11, entering 3rd-5th grade. Activities include an obstacle course, bike safety course and rodeo (bring your bike!), plus climb in and on our patrol and emergency vehicles. Applications for both academies are due by May 15. Don’t wait, these spots may disappear faster than snacks after school. For details and applications, visit jeffcosheriffco.gov/services…

Wanted: One Raccoon. Found: One Clingy Woodpecker. It’s National Animal Control Officer Appreciation Week, and our JCSO Animal Control Officers continue to prove that no two calls are ever the same. This one started as a reported raccoon but turned out to be a woodpecker who then hitched a ride and declared the responding officer its personal tree. After plenty of laughs, the woodpecker eventually moved along and found a more suitable tree of its own. We’re proud of our Animal Control Officers for handling every call with professionalism, patience, and a sense of humor, because in this line of work, even the wildlife likes to keep things interesting.

Not every traffic stop comes with sunshine and good vibes, BUT this one will leave you with a smile. Deputy Enriquez with our Traffic Unit stopped a driver clocked at 55 mph in a 40 mph zone near W Ken Caryl Ave and S Continental Divide Rd. A citation was issued. When asked how this could happen, Deputy Enriquez had a response that caught the driver off guard and earned a laugh from both of them: “(It) was probably your acceleration pedal.” Case closed. The suspect was the foot. It’s what we do.

Jeffco friends, heads up as you roll into the weekend. We are in Stage 1 Fire Restrictions, and conditions are stacked against us right now. We’ve had very little moisture, multiple fires recently along the Front Range, and we are expecting wind with extremely dry fuels. That combo can turn one small mistake into a fast-moving wildfire. No outdoor fires. Period. Reminders: • Dispose of fireplace ashes properly, and only after they are fully cold • Check vehicle chains so they are secure and not dragging • Put cigarettes out completely and never toss them on the ground or out a window Have fun. Be safe. Protect Jeffco. #cofire

Helping Hands After Highway 285 Rollover Deputy Evans proved compassion is an action word on February 8 after responding to a rollover crash on southbound Highway 285. An SUV had flipped onto its roof, trapping the driver inside. The driver, Henry, was awake and talking but hanging upside down in his seat belt. With safety and time in mind, Deputy Evans, along with Deputies Burley and Carter, broke a window to reach him, opened the door, and carefully worked to free the driver’s legs before helping him out. Deputies then moved the driver to a safe spot nearby until paramedics arrived. Henry was then taken to the hospital to be treated. In moments like this, cool heads, calm hands and a caring heart make all the difference.

Help us make this fraud suspect a celebrity. On November 29, 2025, a victim reported several credit cards missing from his wallet. Those cards were later used at the Walmart located at 952 Swede Gulch Rd and on the online dating platform Bumble. Surveillance shows the suspect using one of the stolen cards to make a purchase at Walmart. He was seen leaving in this silver Jeep Liberty, model years 2007 to 2012. If you have any information regarding this incident, please call the JCSO Tip Line at 303-271-5612, or email jcsocrimetips@jeffco.us. Please reference case 25-20144.

Today, we honor a hero. On this anniversary of K9 Graffit’s ultimate sacrifice on February 13, 2023, we pause to remember his bravery, loyalty, and service. His loss is still felt across our agency and throughout our community. K9 Graffit was shot and killed while assisting the Golden Police Department and the Colorado School of Mines with a search for an armed suspect in Golden. Last year, we placed a statue in his honor beside the Rose Garden on the west side of the Sheriff’s Office. It stands as a lasting tribute and a quiet place for reflection. K9s are vital to law enforcement. They help protect deputies and the public, strengthen our ability to locate people and evidence, and serve with a loyalty and courage that never wavers. K9 Graffit, always in our hearts. Forever our hero. 🐾

Attention Parents – “Senior Assassin” Game What is Senior Assassin? Each year, high school seniors across the country take part in an elimination style game. Students are assigned a “target” and try to “eliminate” them using water guns or similar toys like Nerf style blasters or Orbeez guns. Take a second to picture this unfolding from across a hallway or parking lot. These pranks can look disturbingly similar to real firearms. What are the risks? These games generate emergency calls to law enforcement agencies every year, including here in Jefferson County. JCSO School Resource Officers at two local high schools have recovered battery powered water guns from senior students participating in “Senior Assassin.” In these two cases, disruption was limited. But realistic looking toy guns can and have led to real life consequences. In recent years, we have seen participants involved in: • Shooting at occupants of moving vehicles from other moving vehicles • Trespassing on private property • Hiding in bushes or landscaping outside businesses at night • Carrying and displaying realistic toy guns on school grounds In public settings like schools or businesses, these situations can trigger lockdowns and a heavy law enforcement response. In the worst cases nationwide, young adults have been shot and seriously injured. Here in Jefferson County, severe disruptions can also lead to criminal charges. Talk to your kids. It is simply not worth it.

Twelve years ago today, we lost a brother, a dear friend, a dedicated sergeant, and a man who spent his life striving to make the world a better place. Sergeant Dave Baldwin was tragically killed in the line of duty on January 26, 2014, when a wrong-way driver struck him as he conducted traffic patrol on his department motorcycle on Highway 93. Today, we pause to remember Dave and honor all he accomplished during his remarkable 27 years of public service with the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office. Each deputy accepts the challenges of this profession and is aware of the risks involved. Therefore, it is imperative we take the time to remember those individuals who have given their lives in service, so that they are never forgotten. Dave was known for his infectious smile, unwavering generosity, and dedication to his family. He deeply loved his wife, Crystal, and his son, Josh. His strength and legacy continue to live on through them and everyone whose lives he touched. At 8:00 a.m. this morning, we honored Dave’s memory with a moment of silence over the radio, and a visit to the roadside memorial with Dave's wife, Crystal. Though he may be gone, Sergeant Dave Baldwin will never be forgotten

National Dress Up Your Pet (K9) Day Our Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office K9s spend their days working hard, catching bad guys, and helping protect Jeffco with their handlers right alongside them. But even the toughest four-legged crime fighters deserve a moment to swap work mode for goof mode. So today we let AI pick the costumes and it chose… absolute chaos in the best way. Pirate. Superhero. Detective. Bumblebee. Cowboy. Lion. Royalty. Behind the costumes are serious working dogs who train nonstop and show up every day ready to do the job. Today we are just adding a little extra fun, plus toys, treats, and plenty of good dog energy.
