One models I return to frequently in my change practice is the Prochaska & DiClemente "Stages of Change" model. It says that in planning change we should start from the stage that people are at. In health & care, people are often at pre-contemplation stage (not even thinking about it) but leaders plan the change as though people are ready for "action" & implementation fails. There's increasing research evidence to support these kinds of conclusions, eg: implementationsciencecomms.b… Via @TCI_ca

An excellent summary/sketchnote of key principles from the new book by @AmyCEdmondson: “The Right Kind of Wrong – The Science of Failing Well”. Amy differentiates three kinds of failures in organisations: 1) Basic failures: caused by carelessness or ignorance 2) Complex failures: caused by a combination of multiple systemic factors, none of which would have caused failure on its own 3) Intelligent failures (the most productive kind): where organisations/teams are testing new ideas, at small scale to learn & develop: qaspire.com/what-makes-a-fai… By @tnvora Here's another article on Amy's book that focuses on psychological safety & risk taking: hbswk.hbs.edu/item/failing-w… Via @HBSWK

Do we want to break down silos and dismantle hierarchy? Maybe not says @DigitalTonto. In summary: 1) Whilst many people have called for the end of hierarchies, we’ve failed to do away with them because they serve a useful purpose. 2) We should think less about how the org chart is constructed & more how we design for connection. 3) Rather than breaking down silos, we need to join them up, through social connections that span boundaries. 4) Network science shows that often just small amounts of connection are needed to bring social distance crashing down. 5) It's the role of leaders "to help groups connect and forge a common purpose": medium.com/p/d3e56ed23b2. Really pleased to have implemented electronic consent at @WestSuffolkNHS with @Concentric_Hlth. Part of helping patients with better & comprehensive information to allow #SharedDecisionMaking & #InformedConsent. All combined with a slick process for patients & clinicians
We're excited to be launching @Concentric_Hlth in our Day Surgery Unit and Outpatient Department today🚀 This initiative introduces digital consent forms, enhancing our patients' ability to make informed treatment decisions. #PatientFirst #DigitalHealth

I am a big fan of sketchnote visuals. They help make knowledge and ideas more accessible and easy to remember. Our brains process visuals 60x faster than the written word. You can find all the sketchnotes from @HorizonsNHS on the same page. They have been viewed & downloaded millions of times: horizonsnhs.com/sketchnotes/ Lovingly drawn by @LeighAKendall

Many commentators talk about the importance of so-called "soft skills" for leadership into the future. @IDEOU has (so appropriately) rebranded them as "power skills". Here's their brilliant list of 12 key power skills: 1) Cultivating joy 2) Meaningful collaboration 3) Small-scale experimentation 4) Grounding in purpose 5) Creating community 6) Frame shifting 7) Leading with empathy 8) Emotional proofreading 9) Making room for more voices 10) Leading with questions 11) Finding balance 12) Agility ideou.com/blogs/inspiration/… Thank you @FerraroRoberto for the link & graphic
