Thanks to all the MSG 2025 attendees, and especially to the organisers (John Wheeler and helpers) and the MSG committee! Big thanks to the invited speakers, Dr Eleanor Green and Dr Nick Roberts, and the Barrow Award winner, Prof. James Connolly. See you all next year!
The MSG 2025 field trip in Anglesey, Wales, is underway and the sun is shining 🌞
Below, @owenmweller is inspecting an iconic outcrop in Wales: the spectacular ~570 Ma Anglesey blueschists, comprised of partially subducted and exhumed ocean floor material!
On Day 2 of MSG 2025 we had the pleasure of awarding Prof James Connolly (Perple_X developer, ETH Zurich) the Barrow Award and hearing him speak about a novel inversion-based thermobarometry method that he and his colleagues are working on!
Day 2 of MSG 2025 has kicked off! Yesterday afternoon we switched gears and had some excellent talks on regional and Archean studies, plus an invited talk by Eleanor Green on advances in thermobarometry 🌡️
✅ Day 0 of MSG 2025 was a great success! Huge thanks to Nico Riel (University of Mainz) for an engaging and instructive workshop on using MAGEMin, and how it can applied to solve complex problems in thermodynamic modelling of igneous and metamorphic systems.
Note the following openings with Dr Brendan Dyck at the Unversity of British Columbia, filled on a rolling basis:
PhD - Nanoscale structure and properties of mineral grain boundaries
MSc - Analytical geochemistry and crustal evolution
