Thanks to all the speakers and participants, we jointly remembered the efforts made by our predecessors 55 years ago and reaffirmed the importance of FRD, which many pointed out to be probably impossible to adopt by consensus in the current UNGA.
On Oct 29, we held a symposium celebrating the 55th anniversary of the Declaration on Principles of International Law Concerning Friendly Relations, where Amb YAMAZAKI & USG Hammarskjöld gave remarks, followed by a panel discussion w/int'l law experts 🔗 un.emb-japan.go.jp/itpr_en/e…

International Law Week(ILW) is approaching. 🇯🇵will organize an event for Member States to celebrate 55 years from UNGA’s adoption of the “1970 Friendly Relations Declaration”. ILW missed 50 year’s anniversary due to COVID. So, why not celebrating 55 years? un.org/en/ga/sixth/80/pdfs/e…

Back from New York and reflecting on the new #OEWG report: reaching consensus in today’s climate is no small thing, and those who made it happen deserve our praise. But on international law, it’s hard not to feel this was a missed opportunity. 🔗ejiltalk.org/a-missed-opport… @ejiltalk

It is disheartening to see today that the strength of international law and humanitarian law no longer seems binding, replaced by the presumed right to overpower others. This is unworthy and shameful for humanity and for the leaders of nations.
