The sun set just south of Jay Peak this evening and lit up the high clouds behind the tower. IT should be another sunny, warm day tomorrow before clouds and showers return by Wednesday. For more forecast details, please visit mountwashington.org/forecast for the latest.
A thunderstorm passed over the summit yesterday evening and produced several lightning strikes. Seen here is highlight reel, recorded at 1x speed, of several of the closer ones between 930 PM and 945 PM EDT.
Just before these lightning strikes, the summit recorded a wind gust of 83 mph as the gust front of this thunderstorm passed through. Sustained winds only a few minutes before were only in the high 30s.
Only a few patches of snow from last weekend's snowstorm are left on the summit after the warm temperatures we've had over the past few days. Seen here is one of the last on the summit cone itself near Goofer Point around sunset yesterday. (1/2)
The current dry streak will come to an end this weekend, along with the possibility of thunderstorms. For more information on this weekend's weather, please check out the latest higher summits forecast at mountwashington.org/forecast. (2/2)
