🥳On November 29th, Physics staff, alumni and students celebrated 175 years of Physics at UCC.
🌳 A Rowan Tree, known for protection and luck, now grows on campus for all Physics staff and students.
🌃Thanks to everyone that made the celebrations enjoyable!
Professor Colm O’Dwyer, a leading researcher in electrochemistry and solid-state science, has been confirmed as the President of The Electrochemical Society (ECS), a prestigious international society of scientists and industry leaders.

Dr. Yan, a postdoctoral researcher, accomplished this by using an atomically sharp tip and high current to precisely remove each Caesium atom, positioning them outside the scanning field.👏
CVS comprises layers of Caesium and Antimony weakly bonded together. In the STM's cryogenic environment, the top layer is cleaved, revealing a clean Kagome lattice with randomly scattered Caesium atoms. These atoms must be removed for a clear scan.
Researchers @UCC's Macroscopic Quantum Matter Group have used a Scanning Tunnelling Microscope (STM) to write "UCC" with Caesium atoms on a CsV3Sb5 (CVS) sample!🔬

We wish farewell to Joseph Sheehan, CTO of @PhysicsUcc on his retirement. Joe gave 43 years service to UCC and was a highly respected colleague, friend and mentor to many people. The turnout at his retirement celebration last Friday spoke for itself. The very best of luck Joe!
Huge congrats to all @SEFSUCC students who conferred yesterday, especially Guido De Rosa who obtained a Masters in Science. Guido conducted his research with one of the @PhysicsUcc groups led by Dr. Andreas Ruschhaupt. We wish him well for the future!
