In April 2016 Sony spun their PlayStation business off into a wholly owned subsidiary, and not a single media outlet spun the news as Sony making PlayStation easier to sell off or that it was trying to shut down the business.
Now 2026, a rumor comes out that Microsoft is considering spinning off Xbox into a wholly owned subsidiary, and every news story is spinning it as Microsoft trying to sell off Xbox or shuttering the business.
