Indians with their high rates of (and low age of) marriage aren’t having kids.
Malayalis with their McMansions, clean air, water, safe streets, good schools and hospitals, and a gold and bank hoard, *and family nearby*, are having the least.
No one has any real explanation.

Dwelling size per capita in Europe is about double that in Sub-Saharan Africa (and more than 3x that of Europeans a few centuries ago).
The bottleneck to fertility is culture, not money. If Europeans got extra money, they'd use it to buy larger houses, not to make more children.
