Last night I was proud to attend the inaugural event of the Preservation of Italian-American Heritage Coalition. I was honored not only to support the effort with a donation, but also to address the crowd and celebrate a community whose contributions helped shape Brooklyn, NYC, and America itself. I am especially proud to support the effort to build a statue of Christopher Columbus right here in Southern Brooklyn, a lasting tribute to the generations of Italian Americans whose hard work, shared values, and love of country helped build our city and nation. Thanks to @AMLesterChangNY and his office for helping bring this coalition together and for his leadership in preserving and celebrating Italian American heritage as we approach America's 250th anniversary. ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡น๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ

Like millions of immigrants before them, my family came to America believing that hard work, faith, and sacrifice could build a better future. The Stars and Stripes became a symbol of that promise. Today, we celebrate the flag and the nation it represents. Happy Flag Day.๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ

Come on....63 arrests. 4 stabbings. 1 shooting. NYC deserves to celebrate, not chaos. This isn't a partisan issue. It's the foundation of any civilized city.

That's our member behind the wheel. He was pulled out of the cab and suffered shock and physical injury to his arm, back and head. The whole city is elated about our hometown team โ€” and that includes drivers who watched the game last night at airport lots while waiting for the next fare, listened on their radios while cruising for the next job, and huddled at hotel lines with the same heart-stopping anxiety that turned into the most beautiful joy. Pulling the cab driver out of his seat, stomping on and shattering his hood turned our joy into a nightmare. When you see the yellow, do you not see the person behind the wheel? That's someone's spouse, child, parent or friend โ€” a New Yorker. He wasnโ€™t out there for a joy ride, he was working to make ends meet and to get his fellow New Yorkers home safely. Cabbies pay just to go to work. They pay for their cars โ€” whether through loans or leases. Drivers need safety on the job, both in the quiet moments of ordinary days and in the middle of public celebration. Shame on anyone who turns these joyful moments into nightmares for fellow New Yorkers.
