There were over 800 officers deployed for the parade. Today’s tragedy is actually evidence that pouring all of our resources into policing does nothing at all to keep people safe. The longer we act from that myth, the more vulnerable we are to more of the same.
KCPD only shows up when bodies are already on the ground. If we're serious about *preventing* violence, we need to:
- regulate guns
- guarantee mental healthcare
- meet people's basic needs
More cops won't (and didn't) prevent a shooting
