Hi
@Tesla ,
Thanks for introducing a free trial for FSD and the lower cost that I can afford.
We had the trial on both of our Model 3s. We decided to keep FSD subscription active on my car, because I drive about 5-6000km per month.
Here is some constructive suggestion regarding FSD:
1. Personalized Routing:
As a commuter, I know things about my route a software can’t know yet.
For instance, road conditions, school and transit bus routes, bad cell reception, construction vehicle (dump truck) and tractor usage of roads, or roads that FSD may make mistakes on etc. For these and other reasons it is important to add the feature of personalized routes.
The solution is simple: By allowing us to design and save a route we will provide added human experience to your model, and enjoy a better user experience.
I disengage several times per day to override routing simply to tell the vehicle to use the route I took yesterday. This could be as simple as “save this previous trip route as…” very low development costs.
2. Customizable Driving Styles:
As someone who drives a lot I am very cautious not to cause unneeded toil for my vehicle. Currently as I write this I have 358,000km of Tesla ownership.
If I could get my car to drive like an efficient human I can reduce energy costs and tire costs.
The solutions will also cause a little more common sense for the model simply by allowing us a few variables to choose from we currently can’t use.
- Follow distance customizability (similar to standard Autopilot) but with much wiser max distance settings. In the winter, the spray from those in front is a reason not to use FSD. We need to be able to move the vehicle to the full 250ft or more that it can be behind a vehicle and match their speed. This seems like a simple setting to re-add, and will increase FSD capabilities for driverless conditions in the model.
We will help you to train conditions that it should extend follow distance. For safety, it would be good to simply engage a voice command during FSD usage “increase to max follow distance”. You will be amazed how much our training the fleet with this will save your Robo Taxi fleet on windshield washer fluid and stone chip repairs.
- Maximum regen and efficiency user controls.
Currently FSD does not use Tesla braking like efficiently driving humans. It would be better to, in correlation with the follow distance adjustment, also have the vehicle increase its braking time to use the standard braking less, and roll at speed a little more. Another way to increase efficiency and user experience is to open the tolerance on the speed so that the vehicle will roll more - but this does not include rolling into lower speed limit zones. Currently this is a big reason I disengage and it is sometimes unsafe racing into towns from higher speed rural roads.
It would also be good to add a gauge or standard of some sort to the energy usage bar that shows green when decelerating so we can stay within an ideal watts per km, and even better if we can suggest a whpkm so the car drives more carefully and efficiently when safe to do so.
- Accelerator reduction
Right now FSD is harder on tires, including laterally. The above may allow us to fix this, but at least for now we need a way to reduce accelerator aggression and slow down more into corners.
These suggestions are not features AI needs a model for yet, but rather features that allow us to better train your model and increase user experience.
We love our Teslas! Thank you for making the world’s best cars and always being approachable for suggestions!
