TV schedule for ITV the day the Falklands War came to an end. Argentine troops surrendered in Stanley after occupying the islands for 74 days. Live and Let Die was how it was in the brutal battles on the mountains, but Live and Let Live quickly became the mantra.

OTD 1982 Battle of Tumbledown rages through night. Scots Guards fought Argentine troops at bayonet point along crest & flank of this dragon’s back of a mountain. In 2022 we returned with veterans for first archaeological survey. Read free @Mapping1982 book shorturl.at/s5LXw
ALT James Peters & John Litterick were in 2nd Btn Scots Guards in 1982. Here they are about to become the first veterans ever to take part in the archaeological survey of their own battlefield. Tumbledown, behind them is over a mile long and they fought along its length from left to right through a freezing and at time snowy night. After the battle both were part of a 4-man stretcher team hit by a mortar round. The man on the stretcher was killed, as was the man carrying it next to John, who was wounded in the leg.

I know veterans can be incredible battlefield guides thanks to @Mapping1982. Back in the 1830s Edward Cotton, a 7th Hussars veteran of Waterloo, was a well know guide to the battlefield. Looking forward to piloting @DigWaterloo academy for veteran battlefield guides in September.

Very sad news - retired @RoyalNavy Commander Nigel "Sharkey" Ward, who famously commanded the Sea Harriers of 801 Naval Air Squadron, flying from HMS Invincible during the 1982 Falklands War, has apparently passed away aged 80.
