Great job opportunity at (in my obviously biased opinion) the best place to be in journalism.
We’re looking for a journalist to cover the tech industry in San Francisco. The successful candidate would be expected to produce original and ambitious reporting capable of holding the cover of The Economist. Apply by June 18th economist.com/business/2026/…

news still unfolding but here is one thing i'll say: 538's data collection was game-changing, and i hope it gets a rebirth. would need a modest budget for 2-3 researchers and 1-2 engineers. AI has also made things easier (at least I suspect -- we were forbidden from using it).
The real issue with this is that Split Ticket is still just a site we run in our spare time. A site with FiveThirtyEight’s immense trove of data and content takes a lot of effort, money and time, especially when you consider the graphics they have.

In Busan, South Korea, 180 countries are debating the future of a ubiquitous material: plastic. The world produces around 500m tonnes a year. A third of it is used for packaging. I talked to startups trying to make sustainable versions for @TheEconomist: economist.com/business/2024/…
