Full time farmer , father of 3 , grandfather of 3 , 1 wife , couple cows and few hogs , just enough to keep us busy . Notre Dame Grad, Wilcox SK in early 80's
Finally finished Drought '25 corn, had to piss me off to the end, last pass of crap corn, 1 row for 1 1/8 mile ending at back of farm. '26 Beans going in, let's hope everyone has a better growing season this year.
Anyone need anything brought back to Ontario from the Maritimes next week? Our flat deck will have 25 to 30' of room and about 8 ton of Weight available.
Momma Nature is a bit grumpy this AM, she's taken us from 0 snow to around 5"-6" of real wet snow on the ground this AM. Should help recharge some ground water.
Just received tomorrow's dyed fuel pricing, it's going up another 12.6 cent /L from today. Up almost 21 cents from 15 days ago when we topped everything off when USA & Iran started negotiations. Hopefully it'll come back down for the season.

Been coming down here for a while now, was a gentle snow for a few hours and has been like this for over an hour now. 4" new snow this AM. I just got the last 2 days cleared off the driveways and yards. Any idea when it may back off in southern L & A
Official measure of new snow since Sunday AM here is waist deep. I'm 5'11", just got done blowing feed areas out to make it easier for the cattle to get to the feeders. It's backed off now, but 6-7" new snow since this AM's clearing. I would say 28-30" in last 2 1/2 days here
The bulls are leaving a groove in the snow when walking around pasture this AM, that's how much snow we recieved since noon yesterday. It's Nice and cozy in their area of the barn, but they are outside dragging their 🍒 through the snow. Not sure it'd be my 1st choice🤷
Warming up nicely, was -30°C at 6:15 when I headed out for chores. It's pretty dang cool for our part of the country, I can hear the bay making ice big time this AM & i am working about 1.25 miles from it currently
These snow flakes are gonna add up, a strong 2.5"- 3" in diameter and explode on impact. A gust of wind picks up for 10 mins and it looks like 2nd & 3rd picture and you can't see 50'.
We'd easily have 5 to 6" on ground since 1PM. Adolphustown ON area @WxOntario1@LakebreezePWS
Measured 14 1/2-15" new snow in last 6 hrs. That garbage can lid was clean around 5pm when the calves were fed. Son plows snow at night, says snow only extends 5-7 miles north of the Lake. Still snowing on and off, seems like we get dumped on when everyone else is off but me
Anyone have any good ideas that keep these dang things out of belt conveyors in a grain system? They get themselves into spots that they can't get out of fast enough when you turn things on. What a Pain in the A☆☆.
Anyone have a spare 1050/50R32 Michelin or equivalent kicking around a shed they want to sell ? This one kinda blew loaded going down the road, tire man says she's FUBAR & can't be fixed. May need a rim also if you have 1 mounted on a 50,000 lb bolt pattern rim.
Anyone care to offer a yield estimates & combine setting on a CR for these kinda ears, cob is real rubbery & kernal tips are soft & black, almost like they died prematurely. Haven't started corn yet, but it looks like it may be a challenge.
Stopped by & took a 93 yr old neighbour & his wife for our bi weekly visit/crop tour this afternoon. These older couples have a lot of inbedded knowledge us younger clan can learn from. When we crossed this creek between his farm & ours, he said he has never seen it dry before.
Drought continues, corn going backwards, sitting at 1/2 milk line for 2 weeks now & not progressing. Seems like there isn't enough energy left in it to keep it's stature. Stalks are real rubbery now, extreme droughted pockets have basically given up and dropped ears. @WheatPete
Started some corn yield estimates using the PFT formula that @LouiseCarduner posted. We have been in an extreme drought combined with high temperatures most of the summer. Looks like we will have lots of free bin space if anyone local needs some storage. Estimates = 1/3 of normal
Western Canada peoples - anyone still looking for a farm kid to help with harvest ?
My youngest (20) is looking to get away from here for a month or so and help in the harvest. Real dry here, so no 3rd or 4th cut hay to do. Experienced with harvest & hay equipment & tandem truck
