Sergei Fedorov said “leaving Detroit was a huge mistake” during his jersey retirement speech a few months ago. He left in 2003 to go to Anaheim. Dylan Larkin was sitting on the bench along with the rest of the team watching the ceremony live. Fast forward to today and the rumors that Anaheim was added to his list of teams. Really incredible stuff

If I was Yzerman I’d give Larkin a list of three things he could lick: 1) My ass 2) My balls 3) My taint
Helene reports that Dylan Larkin gave #LGRW three teams where he'd accept a trade and believes those teams are: #FlaPanthers, #mnwild and #VGK.

Chris Illitch is on the verge of losing Skubal AND Larkin in the same year. Let that sink in. The media in Detroit is totally spineless and instead of making this the storyline and finally saying enough is enough they will continue to ignore it because he gives them free little caesars after games and a ride on the team plane. It’s pathetic

30 years ago today, Steve Yzerman scored one of the most iconic goals in Red Wings history as he eliminated the Blues in double OT of Game 7 🚨 (H/T: @espn)

Strickland had ice in his veins from the second they showed him during his walkout. He looked so calm and focused. Chimaev looked different during the introductions like he knew that he hadn’t recovered from the weight cut and was not coming in at 100% Also couldn’t hear everything in his corner between rounds but why wasn’t Arman telling him to stop standing and banging with Strickland which fed into Seans style of fighting and to take the fight to the ground immediately? Just a bizarre fight from him all around. Glad Strickland got the win #ufc328

Chimaev looks like he is fighting in slow motion. Either he totally gassed himself in round one or that weight cut totally fucked him up #ufc328

Not a big horse racing guy but I watch this clip a hundred times a year. It’s the best call I think I’ve ever heard in sport.
One of the greatest upsets in sports history. Rich Strike wins the 2022 Kentucky Derby at 80-1 odds 🥹 Goosebumps. Every single time. (via @NBCSports)

ONE OF US. Mickey Redmond smashed his TV remote when the Red Wings blew the late lead with 90 seconds left vs. Florida on March 10th. "It scared the heck out of the dogs, I can tell you that." 😂 #LGRW

Alex DeBrincat has more points than J.T. Compher, Marco Kasper, Michael Rasmussen, Mason Appleton and David Perron (since joining DET) COMBINED. It's a depth issue.

That’s not “fucked”. Whats fucked is a team that is clearly playing below their potential because of effort. And one that has done the same shit for 5 seasons in a row. The fans are fuckin sick of it. Frankly, booing is nicer than it should be. Instead of throwing an octopus on the ice as has been tradition, the fans should start throwing their jerseys. What a disgrace
Being in a playoff race and getting booed off by your OWN fans, that about sums up the Red Wings play right now.

Collapse in Hockeytown: On January 26th, Detroit Red Wings were 32-16-25 (4th in the NHL), since then they are 8-13-3 (3rd worst in NHL) If they miss the playoffs for the 10th consecutive year, it will be the longest active drought in the league

Here's another one. Larkin vacates the middle to change when PIT had the puck. On one hand, everyone else changed so he didn't want to give up the whole ice, but his change opened up the space for the pass through the zone that ended with a goal against. DET is in trouble.
COACHES: Here is a GREAT teaching clip on the importance of defending the middle first, especially in transition. We see this a lot in youth hockey - when the puck gets turned over, players will loop out towards the wall to get back in transition. When the most important part of the ice is defending the middle. Watch the two CAR players Staal and Ehlers on this clip. When MTL gets the puck, they turn outside the dots rather than stop and take the middle away and come back through the guts of the ice. MTL makes a pass through the middle and attack the most dangerous part of the ice on entry leading to the goal. Awesome teaching clip to show your players!

If Yzerman stays, what actually changes in 2027? I’m not talking vague “young guys get more experience”, I mean real change. Hoarding picks and keeping low performing players on the roster isn’t moving the needle. Gibson was a good move (before the season). Faulk was a good move (deadline). But outside of those two, what was the last impactful move? DeBrincat three years ago? The rest have been bullshit, and he’s accepted mediocrity from too many players. The real concern is this: if he stays, is he actually willing to make enough changes this offseason to materially improve the team? Or are we getting more small, incremental moves and having this same conversation in 2027? He’s been very vocal about sticking to his strategy, so what’s realistically changing? Best case maybe we sneak into the playoffs next year and get bounced in the first round? And we’re still years away from being a real contender? Same plan, same problems, same result #LGRW
Another very important March wasted
