As a boomer myself, I don't think we are this stupid. The numbers obviously don't work, but there are ways to make them work, other than whining and bitching about it. I live in a home that is 1.5 million, it has cost me nothing for the last 10 years to live there. I live in the top and rent the bottom. It's truly a great investment. I own a real estate company, the profit margin is based on upstairs/downstairs rentals concept. It can be done....just saying.

ME: “Average house is $420,000.”
BOOMER: “Get a mortgage then.”
ME: “Rates are at 7%. That’s $2,800 a month.”
BOOMER: “Cut back on expenses.”

Glad to see you went back to Norway. Hint: you didn't experience living in the US by living in LA. I absolutely love living here, learned to surf at 10, learned to ski at 16, learned to fly at 18, became a flight instructor at 28, owned my own company at 50, retired early with free healthcare at 65. Maybe this is a hot take but as someone who lived in the US for 4 years before moving home to Norway, I think the US is a great country to visit, not to live in. You get all the benefits of how grand the experiences are in culture, weather, nature, food, sports etc but you don’t have to worry about healthcare, overpaid housing, taxes that fund wars instead of your well-being and a lacking infrastructure. I understand it’s a big country and I only lived in Los Angeles (which is worse than most other American cities) but you only need one small medical issue to realize how messed up the system is. Also Trump.
