Inspired by @AnalysisEvolved’s End of Season Awards podcast episode, I looked at STL City’s “Jekyll & Hyde” award — who flipped their form the most this year based on Goals Added (using June 1 as the season midpoint and >500 min in each half). ⬇️ #AllForCity #STLCity

Can’t wait to see how this plays out over the next year. Earning a degree while playing at an elite level is such a unique opportunity — and building a better pro pathway without losing that balance is great for the growth of soccer in the U.S. #ussoccer #collegesoccer

POSITIVES: CROSSES Mamardashvili is aggressive and brave when coming for crosses. He uses his frame well and rarely hesitates. He does elect to punch versus catch in a lot of situations, though.

BIG PICTURE: At 24 years old, Mama can certainly develop into what Liverpool need from a GK. However, large questions currently exist surrounding his ball playing and sweeping abilities. With Ali’s injury tendencies, will Mamardashvili be ready to step up the way Kelleher did?

Speaking of good goalkeeper performances against STL City… #AllForCITY #STLvsSJ

During Olof Mellberg’s #AllForCITY tenure, only two clubs have had a higher PSxG /- against them, Montreal and DC ( 6.8). City’s value at 6.0 indicates that goalkeepers have performed particularly well against them. New manager bounce today?!

Potential surprises: Bart Verbruggen: Interesting to see that Verbruggen holds the lowest PSxG /- at -5.1. Even after removing the 7-0 thrashing by Forest, he’s still at -3.4. Bernd Leno: A fan favorite at Fulham and reliable shot stopper. Although he is prone to a soft goal.

Things to keep in mind: This data focuses solely on shot stopping. Post-shot xG is a noisy stat where finding the signal of good goalkeeping or good finishing by the player is hard to determine. Let me know your thoughts!

8/9 He almost elects to lean and smother in these situations, rather than using a traditional GK spread (pictured below). Although there are instances where Alisson uses the spread, it seems as if he is more comfortable with this unique save style.

9/9 It is incredibly effective and the data shows that. I think his size and positional awareness allow him to do this. Smaller keepers with less commanding builds (Pickford, Kepa, DDG) are normally seen utilizing the wall and spread technique. Please leave any thoughts you have
