There's a lot of criticism aimed at @AndyBurnhamGM at the moment, and that's fair enough – politics should involve scrutiny and debate. But if I'm honest, some of the criticism and personal attacks now feel over the top. You don't have to agree with someone politically to treat them with respect, and I've never had much time for bullying, whoever it's aimed at. Do I agree with every decision he's ever made? No. Has he made mistakes? Of course he has. Would Andy himself admit he hasn't got everything right? Absolutely. But after watching him closely for years, one thing I have never doubted is how deeply he cares about Greater Manchester and the people who live here. Every week on BBC Radio Manchester, Andy sits in the Hot Seat with Mike Sweeney and takes questions directly from the public. Not the easy questions. Not the pre-approved questions. The difficult ones too. He doesn't hide, he doesn't duck criticism, and he fronts up when people disagree with him. That level of accountability is rare in modern politics. I've seen first-hand the passion, commitment and genuine care he has for our city-region. Greater Manchester is a better place because of his leadership. Is it perfect? No. But progress rarely is. Politics isn't about finding perfect leaders. They don't exist. It's about finding people who care, listen, learn from mistakes and keep showing up. Whatever your politics, I think Andy deserves credit for always being willing to face the public, answer the tough questions and fight for Greater Manchester. I'm proud to call him a friend.

Very generous @piersmorgan , thank you. ❤️ The @spinalinjuries charity does incredible work supporting people living with spinal cord injuries and their families, so your gesture is hugely appreciated. A bit of football rivalry raising £2,000 for a great cause is a brilliant outcome. 🤝
Very honourable of you, Martin… and I’ve had such a great day, I will match your donation to that excellent charity.

Back on the opening day of the season, after @ManUtd lost to @Arsenal, I challenged @piersmorgan to a £1k charity bet: Who would score more @premierleague goals this season… Benjamin Sesko or Viktor Gyökeres? Final score: Gyökeres 14 Sesko 11 So today I’ve paid the £1,000 to @spinalinjuries where I’m honoured to serve as Vice President. Football banter is temporary. Supporting people with spinal cord injuries is what really matters. ❤️ Congratulations Piers… but I’ll be back next season 😉

Today we think of everyone affected by the attack in Manchester on the night of the 22nd May 2017, and particularly the families who lost loved-ones, knowing that every single day of the nine years since has been hard for them. We are still at their side and always will be. 🐝

Today marks nine years since 22 innocent lives were tragically lost in the Manchester Arena attack. The families of those who lost loved ones, and all whose lives were changed immeasurably that evening, are in our thoughts. #ThisCityRemembers #ACityUnited

Today, at the High Court in Cardiff, Richard D Hall was made bankrupt in relation to the enforcement of the judgment made against him. Since the original High Court judgment in November 2024, every available UK legal route was pursued. Appeals were made, delays followed, yet throughout the process the original findings and orders remained unchanged. This outcome has never been about revenge or publicity. It has always been about accountability — and about drawing a line against sustained harassment, misinformation and the abuse of innocent victims. The next stage of the legal process will now follow, with the appointed insolvency practitioners reviewing assets and liabilities in accordance with the bankruptcy order. Throughout these prolonged proceedings, I made a conscious decision not to be consumed by them. Instead, I chose to focus my energy on something constructive and lasting: supporting victims, advocating for change, and helping drive forward the work behind Eve’s Law. While years were spent attempting to delay matters, I remained focused on ensuring that something positive could come from such a painful experience — not just for my family, but for others who may one day find themselves targeted by harassment and conspiracy-driven abuse. After a long and difficult journey, I hope today finally allows this chapter to close with dignity, and allows the focus to remain where it belongs: on truth, accountability, and protecting others in the future. Accountability. Dignity. Closure.
