Marx Memorial Library, Clerkenwell Green: Just north of Clerkenwell Road lies the epicenter of Victorian radicalism. Vladimir Lenin edited 17 issues of the underground socialist newspaper Iskra (The Spark) in 1902–1903. Originally built in 1738 as a Welsh Charity School. It later housed the Twentieth Century Press, which printed early English editions of works by Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels. Despite its name, the square has had no grass for over 300 years, operating instead as a paved urban space that resembles a preserved, historic village center in central London.
