On national Pi Day we’re celebrating our state dessert – Boston Cream Pie! First invented at the Omni Parker House in downtown Boston by a chef named Mossburg Sonzian, it became the official state dessert in 1996.

February became Black History Month because of Carter G. Woodson. Woodson was a scholar who felt young African Americans weren’t being taught enough about their ancestors achievements. Black History Month continues his legacy by honoring black Americans who shaped our society!
January 27th marks the 79th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz. In 2005, the UN began holding ceremonies to honor the lives of Holocaust victims and ensure we continue to educate ourselves on historical atrocities to understand their cause and avoid their repetition.

Nelson Mandela was an important civil rights activist who fought to end apartheid in South Africa. Mandela was imprisoned for his activism for 27 years. After his release, Mandela served as the first black president of South Africa.
