On today's part of USPS being annoying, we have: - USPS getting a package ready at one distribution center, then taking it to an farther away distribution center, then doing absolutely nothing for over a day - USPS taking a different package from one state to a state that's multiple states further away, for literally zero explainable reason All I want is the SE2 and iPad 9 I bought purely for having spare "budget" 27.0 devices in case anything ever happens. (Meanwhile I also buy an A12Z iPad Pro 11" at the same time (for the same reason), it shipped through UPS, and it arrived on Wednesday (it is now Friday going onto Saturday)).

you know this release cycle was scuffed when it took over a day for the original HomePod to be verified to get 27.0b1 I guess checkm8 lives on for a single device with 27.0b1... not that it matters but whatever

Confirmed! HomePod Software 27 b1 SUPPORTS the original HomePod which has an A8 chip

So, here's the two immediately relevant things with 27.x: First of all: - A13-A14/M1 now utilize SPTM - A12Z continues to utilize PPL (making the A12Z iPad Pro's the final PPL devices remaining) This isn't overly surprising - macOS 26.4 did expand SPTM to the non-base M1 SoC's, so it was only a matter of time before it got expanded to A14/M1 (and A13 too for some reason). Second of all: every remaining checkm8 device is dead with 27.x: - Apple TV HD and Apple TV 4K 1st Generation are dropped from tvOS support - T2 was already known to die due to the death of Intel-based Macs - The A8 HomePod also has not gotten a 27.0 beta as of now

horribly late WWDC 2026 *predictions*: - All Intel Macs die (already known), no other Mac dies - A13 iPhones die - all A12(X/Z) iPads die - Apple TV HD might die, Apple TV 4K 1st Generation should live - maybe(?) the Apple Watch Series 6 dies - AI will be shoved down our throats

well, in order: - correct - incorrect - A12/A12X died, A12Z lives on - both Apple TV's died - Apple completely obliterated Apple Watch support (Series 6-8, SE2, and Ultra 1 are dead) - AI was shoved down our throats overall, two that I was correct on, one that I was wrong on, and three that sort of split both ways - overall 3.5/6 Apple makes literally no sense

Some good news for those of you who want to block updates. Apple has decided to be nice and share a refreshed tvOS 26 beta profile - one that now expires on May 20th, 2027 (just under 1 year from today) You can get the new profile at f.itsnebula.net/noota-26.mob… (same url as before)

Note that I still wouldn't expect Apple to release a tvOS 27 beta profile in the future, as it's already been effectively replaced with the beta channel system introduced in 16.4 (years ago at this point). Also, if you used the DNS profile: this profile is better than that.

As we approach WWDC 2026 and iOS/iPadOS 27, it’s time to finally talk about something of future importance as we get to 27.x Assuming nothing changes, Delayed OTA’s will no longer work as they currently exist, and will generally be impractical to actually utilize on 27 and later. How do we know this? Apple’s own iOS/iPadOS 26 enterprise notes - available at support.apple.com/en-us/1250… Specifically, as follows (see the bottom 26.0 section): ”Software update management using mobile device management commands, restrictions, the com[dot]apple[dot]SoftwareUpdate payload, and queries is deprecated and will be removed next year. Going forward, software updates can be managed and enforced using only declarative software update management”. (To clarify, the system that is actively used that people are familiar with is a restrictions profile with a certain number of days set as the restriction). Now, for anyone wondering ”what is declarative software update management?”, it’s a newer thing that - on top of being very different (though obviously still supporting 90 day delays for businesses, obviously) is only available with an MDM, and not just traditional supervision. To not go on a long long tangent, MDM’s are generally a paid thing, usually meant for stuff like schools/businesses and whatever else. While there are a very small handful of free options, they are - to put it mildly - extremely trash (and some of them may still not even support this new update system). There is a potential lifeline here though (though we don’t know for certain yet, and we won’t know fully until 27.0.1 or whatever): this change probably only will apply once you’re actively on 27.x or later. What this potentially means is that, as long as: - You are still on 26.x (or lower) - OTA’s to a major version are still supported from your current version (minimum to OTA to 16 is iOS/iPadOS 13, for reference) you’ll likely have one final opportunity to use delayed OTA’s in a reasonable manner once 27 is the only available option.

Not related, but to overly summarize where I have been: life is an abnormally busy thing - should be more free relatively speaking again hopefully now?

I'm thrilled to announce that I'll be interning at Apple this summer, starting in a week! To the friends I've made and the people I've learned from along the way: thank you. This wouldn't have happened without you. dhinakg.github.io/2026/05/24…

De Rebus Antiquis on the iPhone 4S (with 6.1.3 blobs). This means that every iPhone 4S can enjoy untethered downgrades to any version, as 6.1.3 (upgrade blobs) is signed.

(I love when stuff releases while I’m at work) Notes: - Dopamine 2.5b3 (just like 2.5b1/2.5b2) is a beta, and there may be issues that don’t occur on the latest proper release (2.4.9) - The DarkSword kexploit is known to not work on iPads with 2GB of RAM on 16 (iPad 5th Generation, iPad 6th Generation, and iPad Pro 9.7”), this also means 16.7 support remains unavailable for these iPads. - 15.8.7/15.8.8 are still not supported on A8(X) iPads
