The book documents the ongoing struggles of the Kenyan people against an oppressive tax regime and a government that continues to condemn the workers, women, and youth of Kenya to poverty and continued social justice violations.

VOCAL Africa strongly condemns the arbitrary arrest of Chief Justice Emeritus David Maraga and environmental defenders today along Lang'ata Road. They were peacefully protesting the state's egregious plan to excise 76 acres of protected land from Nairobi National Park to build a parking lot for the Bomas of Kenya. When the very custodians of the law are bundled into police lorries for defending our fragile ecosystems, the state is sending a chilling message, corporate greed and concrete override constitutional freedoms. Article 37 guarantees the right to peaceful protest and Article 42 guarantees every Kenyan a clean, healthy environment. We demand the immediate, unconditional release of CJ Emeritus Maraga and all environmental activists. The state must respect the law, protect our wildlife heritageand drop this destructive park excision plan immediately!

Comrade Ojango's arrest for standing against the attempted grabbing of public land is an attack on civic freedom and democratic participation. Defending our heritage, demanding accountability, and speaking truth to power are not crimes. #FreeOjango #JusticeIsNotACrime

Matatus are the common mode of Transport in Kenya. Drivers and conductors face harsh and exploitative working conditions. We share their experiences using storytelling through videos that are played in Matatus. #NumbersInAction @Equal_Insights @data4change @AdoyoAnthony

Every woman and child deserves safety, dignity and protection. The continued violence against women and children is heartbreaking and unacceptable. As a society, we must speak out against femicide, abuse, neglect and all forms of violence targeting the most vulnerable. Protecting women and children is not a favour it is a responsibility. Justice systems, communities, families and leaders must act decisively to prevent violence, support survivors and hold perpetrators accountable.Silence protects abusers speaking out can save lives. #EndFemicide

Madaraka Day is time to celebrate when we got self-rule from the colonial gvt. Today, being able to govern ourselves means having strong institutions, citizens who protect the constitution and a functioning country , where social justice is not an aspiration but a reality.

Eid al-Adha reminds us that faith is not only about devotion, but also about Sacrifice. As we celebrate today, let us ask ourselves, what 'comforts' are we to sacrifice to ensure we create a just society, where dignity is not a privilege, but a right for all. Eid Mubarak.

The ODPP has officially dropped the 2024 case against Mombasa activists under Section 87(a). These brave defenders were wrongfully arrested simply for standing up against the horrifying wave of youth abductions that gripped our country. Protest is not a crime. Demanding safety for our youth is not a crime. We celebrate this win for justice and remain steadfast in the fight to protect civic space and human rights defenders across Africa.
