#Balticon59 was amazing! Had such a great weekend. Met amazing people. However. The cats I left behind remain displeased. One cat has bestowed forgiveness via snuggles. The other lounges at the foot of the bed like a furry little deity, offering no such grace.

Woah there. Twitter is really off the rails the past few days.

After my keynote at @Gartner_Inc’s conference an attendee told me they’re inspired to make their websites and apps more accessible to disabled people. My favorite kind of inspiration! #GartnerHR

The new logo has arrived to my phone. This is how VoiceOver reads the app name: “Cap x Logo Other, Sign”

VoiceOver still says retweet and the new tweet button is still kicking.

I sprained my thumb a couple of weeks ago, and haven't been able to play my violin. Today was the day I picked it up again. As I walked to my practice spot, I twisted my ankle and fell. In a heroic move, I saved the violin and bow! MY ankle not so much.

Both myself and violin are fine, although I am sitting down for a bit before attempting to play again. I JUST WANT TO PLAY!

We did enjoy Barbie a lot! But sadly the closed caption device didn't work and the folks, once again, gave me headphones that made the sound louder and not the audio description. One day, we're going to walk out of a movie theater and not have to speak to manager. I believe!

Twitter is one of the most blind accessible social media apps. I have no doubt that accessibility will be thrown out the window with this redesign, and this choice of having dark-mode only is just the tip of what I assume will be a very large iceberg of WCAG violations. #a11y

Elon Musk says Twitter will soon only offer dark mode because it’s “better in every way” trib.al/pbM9pDr

Elon has since said that they will keep light mode, but make dark mode the default. twitter.com/elonmusk/statu…

Musk might have been told this but WHOOPS he fired the Twitter accessibility team.

Ugh, a rebrand means a new UI design 😫 I'd say there's a near certain chance that a design change will break accessibility of the website, especially since there's no a11y team anymore. If Musk changes the default color to a black background, I'm going to lose my marbles.

As I'm considering this, I'm realizing that this just makes Musk look petty and vindictive. A billionaire swooped in, purchased an app, and then built a new app on Twitter's corpse. All to ensure that NO ONE could use a tool (toy) that he felt he couldn't have.

This isn't like when Facebook the company became "Meta", which was kind of what-ever. Or Google which is owned by Alphabet. Google is still a thing. Facebook is still a thing. Musk is out to create an entirely new app.

My thought on the whole "X" name is that Musk seems to not consider that while he can control the name of the website and anything contained therein, he can't control the cultural connection to Twitter and words like "Tweet".

I know billionaires think they own the world, but it's a very hard thing to change the modern zeitgeist on a whim. My opinion is that with a total rebranding like this, you effectively kill the original company.

Asking myself “What should I do with my time off between semesters?” And finding the answer is “Read books about disability studies and stumble across Disability Studies Quarterly and read some academic papers. You know, for fun. Like the well adjusted person I am.”

And playing my violin, obviously. I would never neglect my violin.

A lot of starter homes also get sucked up by companies and people wanting to rent them out. Our home is a starter and we went over asking because of this, we had to outbid people who wanted to rent it out.

Actually when we moved here everyone assumed we were planing on renting it out. Like, no. We live here. 😅🙃
