Today, Atlanta journalist Mario Guevara becomes the fifth-longest-jailed journalist in US history, unseating William Farr of the Los Angeles Herald-Examiner, who was jailed for 46 days for refusing to reveal sources in 1972.

This is an excellent summary of Musk’s takeover of the Treasury from @NYMag’s @chasdanner, with quotes from WSJ, NYT, WaPo, and my op-ed from @MSNBC yesterday.
But this quote from @smotus is right on the money. This isn’t efficiency. It’s a coup.

👀: Because of Trump’s federal grant freeze, homeless services providers like @PartnersForHOME have been cut off from funding.
PFH can't even log into HUD's online grant disbursement system.
More to discuss tomorrow, @waberosescott?
This reminds me of a chant Cop City folks did after the referendum that pointed out similarities between Trump and Dickens.

We're out folks.
I'm saddened. This platform was largely where I cut my journalism teeth. I'll miss live tweeting for y'all here.
I'm at the other place too: matt@atlpresscollective.com
This will be ACPC's last post to X.
We believe it's time to officially move on after the salute made by the platform's owner during the events surrounding Trump's inauguration.

Council member Overstreet is trying to do damage control with task force chair Justice Leah Ward Sears about the perception (based on some hard facts reported by @atlanta_press ) that the task force was a “fix” to launder legislation thru council to defang the OIG.
Exactly! Moci Makias told me in an email: PAD responds to calls for service through the city's 311 and 911 lines, so our response numbers are driven by those calls. Similar to differing utilization of the police department across districts, PAD may be called more frequently to some areas. We will continue to work with Council and city departments to educate constituents on when to call 311 for PAD.
SCOOP: With the Gulch deal, the city of Atlanta shortchanged itself by over $3M — money that would have funded affordable housing.
My investigation, for @AtlCivicCircle:
atlantaciviccircle.org/2024/…
Council voted to Fund PAD. Funding for Cop City failed to pass. Task force recommendations that would hurt the OIG were held in committee. A $1.5 million contract to a lobbyist was sent back to committee.
This is the craziest council meeting.
