Adding onto this, I am a character designer There’s a finite number of shapes/colors. Designers share similar shape libraries and visual languages. Trying to claim a shape/color/idea is silly. What gives a character individuality and meaning is the experiences you build with it
I'm not a professional character designer by any means, but I feel like the reason why more and more vtubers get accused of copying each other (and being guilty in some cases) is because yall just go to Pinterest, find a cute outfit, and copy it one to one or make the-

There’s so many anime characters that follow the same generic design principles Viewers can see them as different and unqiue because they had an experience through a story or other some media The subjective memories people make with the characters are what give them meaning

Give you character life, don’t just make a puppet or a doll

Been working in the industry for like a decade and have been hearing peers say unemployment is at like 80% right now😭 Also I got laid off in the last few months too👍
one more thing about this tweet because I just can't let it go. There are oscar winning artists who’ve been out of work for months. This is an extinction level event. Are some students coasting? yes. However, Top students aren't getting jobs either.

Also the outsourcing is crazy right now. I got offered the same job but in Canada for 80% of the pay. A lot of people on the verge of retirement right now too with nobody to take their spot.

I think the absolute best thing you can do right now is focus on your own projects and build something with people in your peer group. The projects and people you work with now will be the people you're working with in 20-30 years as you naturally age

Highkey one of the reasons I find modern games to be boring is so many lack a game loop now Even simple flash games from the 2000s with a game loop hit different. A lot of games now are open ended, but purposefully with no direction to encourage pixel sniffing. It’s odd imo
I once tried to pitch a simulation sandbox and my dev team fucking imploded when a guy had a tantrum because I couldn't describe the gameplay loop with progression.

bro 😭😭
"Uhh, thats not a good art style. That doesnt look right for Link, let alone a Zelda game. Trash 😤" Link has literally never had an artstyle in 3D that didn't eventually become beloved and appreciated. Knee jerk reactions are so freaking dumb.

A little tip I’ve figured out if you have troubling seeing a visual hierarchy: Don’t try to focus really hard on one thing (color/value/shape) Instead, try to visually filter OUT things you don’t want to focus on For example, filter out everything except for red in an image

The visual system seems to focus on stuff that is highest contrast first, whether it be value or color or shape. Composition will play with what draws the eye, the speed at which the eye moves, and the balance of where the eye moves on the canvas

The approach of doubling down and trying to singularly focus on a shape/color/value never worked. It’s only the omission of everything else that has made it feel easy and intuitive. Im pretty sure this is some kind of executive function issue with sensory filtering in the brain

Saw Backrooms last night since it’s been one of my favorite series for a while Was so happy to see that the film has breathing room to really allow you to feel the weird emotions and horror ✨

I’ve always said in my approach to filmmaking that you need to slow down at times and let the viewer and the audience feel the emotions and process them rather than just think about them. I’d love to try making some liminal art someday
