Loving students is our obligation, but we can’t fumble chances to show students that we LIKE them. That we enjoy spending time with them and find them interesting.

Overlooked reason for the literacy crisis is that media has stopped pushing reading entirely. As recently as the 1990s books were at the center of culture. As kids it was drilled into us that to be successful, you had to read. We need a national campaign to make kids read again.

We need to heavily shame and stigmatize using AI for personal writing: texts, eulogies, essays, twitter posts. Letting a machine steal your words is a dangerous habit, that over time will rob you of being able to write or think at all. Writing is for human beings.

IMO it should be considered quite rude in most contexts to post or send someone a wall of 100% AI-generated text. “Here, read this thing I didn’t care enough about to express myself.”

Schools are begging parents to “hold the line” on elem kids getting cell phones and I’m genuinely confused about why it’s even a fight.
