Today we're announcing the selection of The @BoringCompany to build & operate express service to transport people to O'Hare Airport from downtown in 12 minutes on electric vehicles in underground tunnels. The project will be funded by the company with no taxpayer subsidy.

As someone who works in the film industry (independent filmmakers) this is super compelling, especially after going to my first industry conference last year, virtually devoid of women and PoC. One of the most disturbing parts was the lack of notice of this being a problem. x.com/melodyhansen/status/97…

Take initiative! If not hiring differently doesn’t affect you, chances are you’re the one with the privilege. Step out of your comfort areas and of what you want - see what the world needs and deserves. If you’re a PoC or woman in the film industry, thank you for what you do.

And that’s in large part because those filming, gaffing, lighting and directing films are white males. Even if the creative scope isn’t a valid incentive for different hiring practices, we owe the world a broader vignette of life than what’s available to just a few people.

If you produce / direct films and have hiring responsibilities, hire more PoC and women. The bounds of our creativity are fixed at the hip to the people who we work with. Many frustrations in my market come from washed out pieces with little distinctive qualities...
