The antidote to division isn’t effective persuasion, but a willingness to reconsider your own point of view. It’s much easier said than done...

It's rare to open people's minds by preaching and prosecuting ("I'm right, you're wrong!"). Instead of trying to score points in a debate, treat it like an interview. Your role is to ask questions that help people consider their own reasons for change. nytimes.com/2021/01/31/opini…

You don’t learn civics at a coding bootcamp. It shouldn’t be a choice between obtaining employable skills OR a higher eduction. It should be a question about the best way to get BOTH.

The K-shaped recovery is multifaceted in nature
New and devastating data is in, showing that college enrollment for low-income students is down by 29% since the pandemic. This will sadly crush social mobility for a generation if we don’t tackle it quickly: the74million.org/?p=565911

So humbled and proud of this recognition. However, if COVID-19 has made anything readily apparent, it’s that there is still so much work to be done

Not only is degree inflation potentially discriminatory, but for many roles it’s also myopic. The skills required to compete in the knowledge economy will come from myriad places

Dear employers: stop requiring college degrees in job postings. It systematically disadvantages those who acquire skills through alternative routes—especially people of color. There's nothing you learn in college that you can't learn elsewhere. @pqblair wsj.com/articles/the-dispara…

Requiring universal articulation among institutions with the same accreditor is a great idea, but it will never happen 1/
The average transfer student currently loses 43% of their previously earned credits. This happens even when they switch schools overseen by the same college accreditor. Here's one proposal to ameliorate this problem that surely needs to be addressed. thirdway.org/memo/using-accr…
