Markets open today for the first time in 2026. I don’t talk about my investing much, because it is 100% boring. Mostly farm land, and $tsla shares, long term….. Farming has taught me to never hold my breath, so I won’t, but I am low key excited about the possibility of a spacex IPO this year. I first heard about SpaceX when a local radio show did a segment on Elon’s interview with the BBC, in March of 2012. One way tickets to Mars. That’s the first time I had heard of the guy, and also what got me started looking in to his crazy electric car idea…. There’s a lot of water under the bridge since then, and I have a feeling there’s a lot more water where that came from.

Beautiful morning. Nice rain yesterday. Checking on some corn. Looks like the deer beat me to it. They had a little fawn with them, but he was too fast to get on the picture. I wished I could borrow some of his energy, lol!!

The farm shop had a little different look and smell to it this past week. Barbara was arranging flowers for a friend’s wedding this weekend. I’m starting to understand that an acre of them is worth a lot more than an acre of my corn or soybeans. Lot more work too, lol

Beautiful morning and perfect field conditions for row crop cultivating. Hope to get done with the first pass on corn, and started in soybeans by tonight 🤞

Another red sky morning, another nice rain shower. Hope to finish cleaning up the planter, then see if the fields dry up enough this afternoon for some more row crop cultivating….

Sun trying to break through the clouds this morning. So happy to catch a little rain shower over night. Would take another one if it cared to show up.

Planting is done…..but not the war on weeds. The old fashioned way….

Planting is all done for another year! Surprise rain shower delayed us a bit in the last field. Most of it went south of us, so within an hour we were able to get back at it. Just enough for a partial equipment wash, and a beautiful rainbow 🌈

Beautiful morning here. Temperature is perfect. Sun shining down on the barley, newly emerged heads of grain waving in the breeze.

Soybean planting carries on. Getting closer to the end. It’s nice to see a few Trilliums blooming in the woods around the fields. They are Ontario’s provincial flower. Don’t see them a lot. Trillium, because everything comes in 3’s, 3 leaves, 3 petals, 3 sepals…..

I rather enjoyed watching last night’s Blue Moon rise and set, behind the canola in flower 🌕 The last monthly (calendar) Blue Moon, in May was 38 years ago, the next one will be in 19 years. I wasn’t growing canola yet back then, and who knows about by the next time….

I will never tire of winter canola in flower. It’s just so yellow, like nothing else! Hard to believe it will be time to swath it in about 5 weeks…..give or take.

Beautiful sky last night! The only thing that would have made it better is if the planter was running, instead of broke down. We got it though, running good now. Neighbour Joe is happy to get done harvesting last year’s corn 🌽 too, across the road!!

Always makes me a bit uneasy seeing a plane in a corn field. No one was hurt as near as I can tell. A few decades ago someone was killed, taking off from this runway. I will never forget that hole in the ground where the nose landed, and the tracks from the rescue vehicles in a bee line from the road across the corn rows.

Nice one this morning! Had some rain over the weekend, getting dry enough today we hope to plant more corn. Might get done tomorrow, then start on soybeans.

I always like the years when there’s canola close by the buildings. The aroma from the lilacs, apple blossoms and canola smells so nice outside the shop as we pull our hair out diagnosing a hydraulic load sensing issue in the row crop cultivator. Seems like we can’t have one without the other, so I’d rather have both than none!

Corn planting for the week was done, so I found myself glued to the screen last evening, watching starship. I hope I can have a ride on something like that someday. Maybe I’ll chicken out when the time comes, but I think that would be one of the biggest expansions of the universe I could have. Seeing the land where I spend all my time, blood, sweat and tears, from a totally different perspective.

Winter canola is really starting to bloom. So pretty. Second picture is from a week ago. Frost warnings again last night. So glad it didn’t. Way to raise my anxiety Mother Nature, you win! Now just turn the heat up a bit please…..not asking for much, just a few degrees….

When I went to get the corn planter out of the shed yesterday, I noticed a robin’s nest on it. I moved the nest to what I hope is another safe spot, on top of the fertilizer spreader. Sorry momma bird, hope you agree with me! I have moved nests successfully in the past 🤞
