Me when I see English first language speaking Canadians and Americans who never lived in Quebec try to pronounce Montreal in French, or say “Mont Royal” instead of Mount Royal Please. Stop. It’s pretentious and you sound like a dolt when you do it!
Stop pronouncing “Maduro” and “Caracas” in a heavy wannabe Spanish accent unless you’re actually speaking in Spanish you pretentious twats

Can't believe the number of people arguing with me this ghetto stadium with temporary seats was actually good Canada poor mentality hits hard
I can't help but notice that Mexico and the US started their WC in amazing stadiums while Canada was pretty lame in Toronto. What a weak stadium They made a statement, we didn't

Canada could have been ready for this moment. Zero corporate taxes, special economic zones. Instead we get government playing VC and chasing innovators out.
The US government, citing national security authorities, has issued an export control directive to suspend all access to Fable 5 and Mythos 5 by any foreign national, whether inside or outside the United States, including foreign national Anthropic employees. The net effect of this order is that we must abruptly disable Fable 5 and Mythos 5 for all our customers to ensure compliance. Access to all other Claude models is not affected. We apologize for this disruption to our customers. We believe this is a misunderstanding and are working to restore access as soon as possible. Read our full statement: anthropic.com/news/fable-myt…

Tired: the Trudeau/Ford voter Wired: the Poilievre/Lombardi voter
I just applied to joined the Ontario Liberals to (eventually) vote for @EricDLombardi, because the Ford government kinda sucks and Eric's pragmatic centrism is what we need. I'm still a member of the federal Conservatives, of course, and intend to keep things that way.

About time we see someone trying to fight for a Canada where we aren’t resigned to being content with mediocrity domestically
This pathetic attitude is among the worst things about our political culture in Canada and I cannot reject it enough. It gets cloaked in the language of progressivism but it is deeply cynical, ugly, and regressive. Story time! Growing up, I was hugely inspired by RIM (BlackBerry). It was one of the reasons why I wanted to go to Waterloo. I thought it was so cool one of the most innovative companies on earth was an hour away from home. In fact, my program, Nanotechnology Engineering, was able to exist in part due to the philanthropy of Mike Lazaridis, who funded the Institute of Quantum Computing and Nanotechnology (along with the Perimeter Institute for theoretical physics, which is a brilliant asset for the province and country). Balsillie, for his part, has spent tens of not hundreds of millions of his personal wealth on advocacy and institutions to make Canada a better place. But he too was castigated in our media. Through high school, I saw how Canadas media took an axe to RIM founders (Mike and Jim), and basically cheered on the decline of the business against competition from Apple and Google. It was a complete disgrace. Well, in 2013 I got my second co-op job there, just as they rolled out BB10 (the QNX operating system). 6 weeks into my co-op, my entire department was laid off (Modems/Semiconductors). Nearly every one of my colleagues ended up moving to the US. Some of the most capable talent on earth, poached in weeks. It was loss that was absolutely devastating to witness. I have no doubt people like Bruce cheered on the spectacle, just like he would cheer the downfall of Shopify if it were to ever happen; despite the champion it’s been for the country, the thousands of good jobs it’s created, and all the spin-off businesses that have created huge wealth for Ontario. Well let me be clear that I will have none of this nonsense.

While I’ve criticized how Alto is run and have my doubts given out the door price I know EXACTLY why he wants it killed. PSPP was Quebec to be a hermit kingdom. If he could get away with it, he’d forcibly rename Batman to «Homme chauve-souris» (or just commission a bootleg)

This has quietly been a miracle month in medicine. In the last 5 weeks we’ve got news on: - retatrutide, the triple agonist GLP-1 from Lilly, basically melting fat and body-wide inflammation at record levels - RevMed’s new pancreatic cancer drug showing unprecedented abilities to extend life - small trial of a one-and-done PCSK9 gene editing therapy for slashing LDL cholesterol - Mayo’s AI-assisted radiology showing vastly improved cancer detection - this new therapy for metastatic solid tumors This stuff is at varying levels of evidence. Retatrutide is ~100% on its way, other stuff needs more clinical trial data. But put it together and we’re maybe on the verge of majorly reducing the mortality of heart disease and cancer, the two leading causes of death in America.
This is actually insane. 97% of people taking the standard of care for metastatic solid tumor got worse by seven years. But with lorlatinib, that number was only 45% in the same time! This is an ENORMOUS jump in the quality of cancer care.
