Web developer here.
The GTA 6 cta_preorder thing is real, but people are reading way too much into it as it has been around since May 2025.
cta_preorder basically means “call-to-action: preorder”. It’s a tracking event inside Rockstar’s Google Tag Manager setup. GTM usually sits between developers and marketing teams: devs add the setup once, and marketing/analytics teams can later configure tracking for buttons, campaigns, and events without deploying the website every time.
When a preorder button exists and someone clicks it, the site can send data like button text, link URL, placement, and even a sku_id to Google Analytics.
That sku_id part is interesting because it could track which specific product/version someone clicked on. This lines up with the rumors about multiple GTA 6 editions/bundles shared by
@DetectiveSeeds.
From a dev/marketing perspective, this is normal prep work. You set up the event in advance so the tracking is ready the moment the preorder CTA is actually used. As checked by me with Wayback Machine, it has been there since May 2025.
So yes, it’s legit.
No, it’s not new.
But with the Best Buy leak, it’s definitely more interesting than it was before.
