Fabulous new hospital based intervention for families where a parent has cancer. Demonstrates the importance of asking patients if they are also parents #parents #COSA22 #COSA2022
Our poster at #COSA2022 (presented by @RossSkrabal) evaluating the hospital-based parent support worker 🏥. Parents experiencing high/very high distress dropped by more than half 💚 👉 from 56% pre-service 👉 to 25% post-service @PPattersonPhD @Mc_Fin

Health-professionals need to think about what/how we communicate w young people. Clinicians who see themselves as “egalitarian” can unwittingly make it harder for LGBTQI #AYAs to feel safe to disclose their identities. There are simple we can open this door for young people👇🏻
Powerful talk and call to action from @power_rosalie to learn the language and up skill to create cancer care safety for LGBTQI AYAs

We’ve partnered with PhD student, (and former Canteen Youth Ambassador), Bec on a study to explore how friends can best support a young person diagnosed with cancer. To find out how to get involved, email Bec - rebecca.l.sampson@postgrad.curtin.edu.au #cancer #youthcancer

Cancer has taken so much from Matt. First, his Dad, then two years later he would lose his step-dad to cancer too and just last year, Matt’s mum was diagnosed with breast cancer. Matt is now sharing his story in support of Canteen - raising awareness & funds this #BandannaDay

New publication from the @OutWithCancer1 on #distress and #QoL in LGBTQI cancer patients. AYAs with cancer haver higher distress than older LGBTQI cancer patients. Interesting data to identify at risk groups. @CanteenAus @PPattersonPhD
Our new paper: 3-6 times higher distress in LGBTQI cancer patients - linked to minority stress and low social support. Highest distress in trans, younger age, bisexual or queer people, or those in rural areas @OutWithCancer1 #CancerResearch #LGBTQ frontiersin.org/articles/10.…
