One of my favorite things that has been said about the community we've been building at WEPC is that we happen to have "just really nice people, the kind that you like coming to work with" (in addition, ofc, to being excellent scholars!) Excited about a new addition in Fall 25!
🚨Job Alert🚨 One month from today (Nov 1st!) we will begin reviewing applications for an Assistant Professor, Educational Policy here @BUWheelock. We're very excited to welcome a new faculty member into the @wheelock_policy (WEPC) community. Please share with networks and reach out with interest! Full details at: academicjobsonline.org/ajo/j…

Very personally invested in each of these individuals & so grateful for all the ways they’ve helped launch, build & make WEPC what it is today. Excited to stay in their orbit & continuing to support & admire their contributions to research/policy. The cake certainly says it all…
The end of an academic year is always a bit bittersweet as we see some of our favorite people take exciting new steps in their careers (& also because there is usually cake)! @abacherhicks @christocleve @wdelgadophd & Chelsie Ahn - We’re so lucky to have had you in our midst!

It's certainly been a minute since I've talked publicly about the state of teacher prep, but I am so looking forward to getting back to it w/ two colleagues who've been leading on this front for decades @DavidJChard & Eleonora Villegas-Reimers. Join us! bu.edu/wheelock/news/convers…

Probably one of my favorite new traditions, a dinner with @wheelock_policy and our policy-focused colleagues at #AEFP2024. Such a treat to have all these super thoughtful people around one table! Thanks to everyone that attended!

(Hindsight, probably should have rethought the overwhelming presence of the artwork in the background). 😬 Maybe Kate Middleton has some tips?

Had a very “room where it happens” vibe today w/@wheelock_policy’s @OliviaLChi presenting to legislative leaders, 2 MA commissioners & countless educator diversity champions I so admire. Pics = definition of policy-relevant research. Thx to @MassINC & @Latinos4Ed for involving us

Curious what we were sharing? Olivia and @abacherhicks conducted analyses at the center of a new Mass Inc report out today showing progress but much more to do to realize #teacherdiversity goals here in the commonwealth. massinc.org/research/educato…

I am so excited to see that @sreesociety has introduced a new section devoted to special ed, chaired by @JasonChow. It's an excellent opportunity to put special ed researchers in conversation with methodologists, policy researchers, and folks from other fields. See you there!

BREAKING: In the State of the Commonwealth, @MassGovernor announces a 5-year early literacy plan to bolster how kids across the state are being taught to read "Children are paying the price. Some are struggling, for years, to catch up — if they even can. So we're changing that."

Absolutely agree with last sentence of this piece, everyone should be looking closely at these policies and how they are shaping the workforce supply & quality. That said, one important caveat the @wheelock_policy work notes that this piece doesn't fully capture is.. (1/3)
{New} When COVID hit, states granted waivers to allow teachers "emergency" licenses without their normal training. Were those teachers worse? Today @The74 I dig into research from @brbackes @CEDR_US @abacherhicks @OliviaLChi which suggests maybe not: the74million.org/article/eme…

...just how unique the group of individuals coming in on this emergency provision may have been. Small samples, limited years of data and this unprecedented scenario call for some caution in jumping to any immediate conclusions. (2/3)

My hope is that other states will follow @MASchoolsK12's lead & experiment thoughtfully w/ licensure policy, but do so with a robust research agenda alongside so that we can more firmly settle decades long debates. Both @CEDR_US & @wheelock_policy ready to help that happen (3/3)
