We are the Science department at Maiden Erlegh Chiltern Edge. We are here to display excellent work and give our GCSE students their 5-a-day revision question!

Well done to Henri in Year 7. Henri has been a real science super star this year and has completed many optional homeworks, including this one, "How do video games improve hand eye co-ordination".
Even during their last lesson, students at MECE are working hard. Year 7, exploring scientific method and racing boats! Year 8 are doing field investigations to work out the population of daisy's on the school field.
A big thank you on National @UKThankATeacher Day to all our Teaching and Support Staff. π Don't forget, if you would like to say a little thank you then please take a minute to express your gratitude here π forms.office.com/e/qedp3nhakβ¦ before Friday 21 June.
Congratulations to all students. For many, today was your last exam. I am proud of so many of you. "Your life is your adventure, and the adventure ahead of you is a journey to fulfill your own purpose and potential." (Kerry Washington)
Linking chemistry and biology. Year 8 students have learnt fertilisers contain elements that are essential for the healthy growth of crops. Fertilisers can be made in the laboratory and on a larger scale by the chemical industry. Here, the students are making ammonium sulfate.
Fabulous revision mind maps completed by our yr9 nurture group. They worked so hard and made huge progression in their science. These students have now graduated from nurture and joined the GCSE class with the rest of their peers. Very proud of you all. Keep up the good work.
Investigating how surface area affects the rate of a chemical reaction. Students reacted differing sized calcium carbonate chips with hydrochloric acid. They then collected the gas produced using a large gas syringe.
Here, year 7 and 8, students were enjoying testing different metal ions under a flame. We had an array of beautiful colours. The favourite was Lithium which gives a magenta red-pink flame.
Following the theme of 'time'. Day 2 of Science Week - Students had to build an instrument to accurately measure time! Accurate measurement is a cornerstone of good science.
Students from all years got involved with our lunch time Science week activities. Day 1- students built a prototype rollercoaster and experimented with them to control the time it takes for the cart to reach the endΒ of the ride. The slowest speed reached was 183 m/s!!!
Year 10 concentrating hard on investigating the effects of light intensity on the rate of photosynthesis. This is 1 out of 29 required practicals the students undertake at GCSE.
