A brief note on these positions:
They were created through a 5-year extension of our institute’s WPI grant, part of a key Japanese government initiative.
Although titled “Specially Appointed Assistant Professor,” they are closer to postdoc positions overseas. The salary is competitive for postdocs at regional Japanese universities, though exchange rates may make this hard to judge. The initial term is 3 years, with possible extension depending on circumstances, and many PIs hope excellent members will stay long term.
Japan’s life and research culture differ from abroad, but NanoLSI is international and welcoming, with over 30% of researchers from overseas.
Kanazawa is known as a “Little Kyoto,” rich in traditional culture, surrounded by mountains and sea, and famous for its food. It is also a lively city of 450,000 with good access to Tokyo and Osaka, and has many devoted fans.
NanoLSI’s PIs are approachable. Although the institute may not yet be widely known globally, its PIs have strong achievements and exciting research programs. Please feel free to contact us if interested.
