Today, we’re celebrating one of the most sustainable, reliable, and fun ways to experience Maryland. Whether you're a daily commuter or a weekend trail blazer, World Bicycle Day offers the perfect time to dust off your helmet and enjoy the ride.
Did you know World Bicycle Day is a relatively recent official holiday?
In 2018, the United Nations officially declared June 3 as World Bicycle Day after a dedicated grassroots campaign led by sociologist Leszek Sibilski. The UN recognized the bicycle as a symbol of human progress and advancement—praising its longevity, versatility, and environmental friendliness, having served humanity for over two centuries!
It's the Wheel Deal:
Jumping on a bike isn't just a great way to get from point A to point B; it’s a win-win for you and the environment:
🚴‍♀️ Eco-Friendly Exploration: Bicycles emit zero greenhouse gases. Choosing two wheels over four helps keep Maryland's air clean and protects our local wildlife habitats.
🚴‍♂️ Health & Happiness: Cycling is a fantastic cardiovascular workout that builds strength, improves joint mobility, and significantly reduces stress.
🚴‍♀️ Deep Connection to Nature: Traveling at a bicycle's pace allows you to truly take in the sights, sounds, and smells of Maryland’s diverse ecosystems.
