The NFRSA - what do we do? The National Foundation for Retired Service Animals (NFRSA) provides vital financial support for the medical care and wellbeing of retired police, fire, prison, NCA, NHS, and border force animals across the UK. After years of loyal service protecting our communities, many working animals retire with complex medical needs and ongoing healthcare costs. We’re here to make sure they’re not forgotten. Whether it’s a prison dog recovering from injuries, or a police horse suffering from colic - the NFRSA steps in to help. We do not charge our family a compulsory monthly membership fee, our assistance is given freely. Your donations, support, and purchases of our merchandise go directly towards giving these incredible animals the retirement they deserve. We keep our overheads to a minimum, and we strive to make sure your donations go where they’re needed, to the animals, not on admin costs. Please consider donating to our work - a monthly contribution of just £5 - (the price of a cup of coffee and cake - and less than one pint of beer) - makes a huge difference. It could help RPD Stark from @WMPDogs with his monthly meds - £140; or RPD Sam from @DogsHmpps with his monthly Librela injection - £140; or RBFDD Rolo from @UKBorder with his epilepsy prescription - £80; or RPH Bodie from @swpolice who recently suffered from colic - £400. There are many more we help on a monthly basis - not enough room to list them all here! Or it could go towards the comfort we give when a retired dog has to leave for their final journey such as RPD Lenny from @DevonPoliceDogs @DC_Police - who passed away last month - £680. In the first quarter of 2025 alone we have processed, and paid, 48 grants totalling well over £20,000 - ranging all the way from £60 to £2,300, and as much as £4,300. However, we simply cannot be there for our heroic service animals, who have protected us all in so many ways, without your help - so please join us in supporting our mission: ‘Protecting Our Protectors’. RPD Stark retired from West Midlands Police in January 2025. His heroic career includes being attacked by a machete in 2020 when he was detaining a suspect. Rolo is a retired border force detector dog who found drugs, explosives, and cash at Heathrow, keeping our airports safe. Rolo sadly had to retire due to suffering from epilepsy, and the NFRSA supports him with his monthly medications. Retired Police Horse Bodie served with South Wales Police before going to live with his owner, Natalie, a sergeant with the force. Bodie has received a grant recently of just under £400 when he suffered from colic. The NFRSA helped to cover the cost of veterinary treatment. Bodie is a beautiful chestnut horse who helped keep the larger events in South Wales safe, as well as operating on mounted patrol across the area before retiring. I was very proud of myself today, as I helped Mummy solve an age old question. How ear protectors are actually made. So as a special surprise, I took a pair apart bit by bit, chewed the pieces for closer examination, and then showed Mummy. I could tell she was impressed, as she was speechless with excitement. She stared at my carefully re-crafted pieces, obviously overwhelmed by my genius, & without another word she picked it up and took it away. Probably to re-examine my cleverness later. It was a good day, & I’m very satisfied with my diligence and hard work. #gooddog #LABRADOR #genius #dogslife #doglover #dogsarefamily

Since we launched in 2022, we have given over £70,000 in grants, and helped dozens of animals and their families - and it's all thanks to you.
