Today, we had the privilege of observing a crucial roundtable at the UK Parliament, hosted by @BGIPU and @IBAHRI, and featuring @ZahraJoya, @MeetraQ , and @EwelinaUO The discussion laid bare the harsh reality of gender apartheid in Afghanistan and the Taliban's exploitation of social media for recruitment. However, the most critical takeaway was the urgent need for legal accountability. We were briefed on the Genocide Determination Bill, currently progressing through Parliament. By shifting the power to determine genocide away from courts (which are largely inaccessible in these cases) and toward international institutions like the ICJ and the ICC, this bill offers a tangible pathway to justice for the Hazara community. With its second reading scheduled for July 17 in the House of Lords, the passage of this bill is not just a legal formality it is a lifeline for recognition and protection. Grateful to all the parliamentarians and speakers for their unwavering commitment to this cause.

It was great to join this important discussion focused on women’s rights, the system of gender apartheid in Afghanistan, accountability mechanisms, the Taliban’s digital strategy, and the responsibility of social media platforms to enforce policies addressing extremist content.

When people talk about Taliban lobbyists in the West, here's an example. The Taliban regime has done everything possible to institutionalise & entrench its system of oppression against women. It is no surprise to see some despicable individuals attempting to whitewash the regime.
Saad Mohseni’s claim that the situation for women in Afghanistan is “normal” does not reflect reality. While girls remain banned from secondary and higher education and women continue to face severe restrictions and arrests over their appearance and presence in public life, the oppression of Afghan women cannot be normalized. #AfghanWomen #GenderApartheid #WJM

بیشتر بخوانید: etilaatroz.com/254059

No place for Reform in Ealing! Great to see my dear friend @RabiaNasimi elected as the councillor for East Acton. Councillors are a bridge between residents and the local authority, helping residents with local issues, and setting community priorities. Wishing Rabia all the best!

Religious groups remain unprotected under Taliban rule. In Herat, after a deadly attack that killed 13 Shia civilians, Taliban've warned against protests and refused to ensure their security. They don’t provide safety and don’t hold anyone accountable for the attack.

Today marks the start of the new school year in Afghanistan. For the fifth year in a row, girls above grade 6 remain banned from education under the Taliban. Education is a fundamental right and it must be protected for everyone.

Britain cannot become another US, where racist comments and the humiliation of communities are tolerated and normalised. This goes against everything British culture and values stand for. Ps: Restore and Reform competing in the decline of decency!

And yet the UK government has banned issuing student visas to students from Afghanistan. Many candidates who were shortlisted for the Chevening award have seen their hopes and hard work shattered after their interviews were cancelled.
"This will be the 5th year that the girls will not be able to go to school." On the sidelines of #CSW, UK Special Envoy for Women and Girls @HarrietHarman sits down with Afghan civil society leader @NehanNargis to discuss the urgent situation facing Afghan women and girls.

At least 400 people were killed in an airstrike by Pakistan on a rehabilitation hospital in Kabul. Targeting civilian areas is a war crime under international law. How can the world ignore this atrocity?

After last night’s Pakistani attack on Kabul, misinformation is circulating on an industrial scale. For example, a picture of a group of addicts shared by Mr. Mujahed, claiming that they were “mostly killed,” is actually from April 5, 2023. The image was originally posted by the Taliban’s Ministry of Interior on its X account. It is difficult to believe that these exact individuals were still being treated in the hospital and are the same people supposedly killed in last night’s bombing. I call on the Taliban to allow independent media to investigate this tragedy and document details of all civilian casualties.

What is the point of saying we “stand with the women of Afghanistan” while banning them from getting study visa's to the UK? Even students who won the @CheveningFCDO, one of the most competitive scholarships in the world. And now @ShabanaMahmood says no, all cancelled.
As CSW begins, the UK stands with the women and girls of Afghanistan. We are appalled by the intensification of the Taliban’s repression, including a new penal code which legitimises domestic violence. These horrific decrees must be reversed. @Jacqui_Smith1 at the UNSC.
