Another fabulous @SSNCI_tweets conference last weekend! I presented on Robert French's tourist images of Ireland (1865-1914) in the 40k strong Lawrence Collection. Their incredible scope makes them a huge source of visual inspiration for how we researchers visualize 19C Ireland.

Channeling my PhD Viva stress (it's on FRIDAY) into making notecards with bullet points for every possible question I can think of. Just made one titled "Self" with tidbits like "my niece made me this necklace for good luck." So that's about where my brain is at today. #phdlife

Early women photographers could find themselves in competition with each other, especially in London from the mid 1850s as more studios were established. One of these was Miss Mina Peyton who advertised her London Oxford Street portrait studio in The Times in February 1854. 1/2

Really excellent news today! Peter is a delightful human, a wonderful poet, a fab friend, and will do Scotland proud as our Makar.
First Minister @JohnSwinney has revealed that Scotland’s new Makar is Gaelic-speaking poet, Peter Mackay. Mr Swinney made the announcement as he met the new Makar on a visit to the Central Library in Edinburgh.

This week's early British woman photographer is Miss Matilda Hamilton, born in 1808. In 1848 Matilda placed an advertisement in The Times for tuition in photography at her London residence, promising a thorough knowledge of 'the pleasing art' in a few easy lessons. 1/4
