Media often stigmatizes pain in adolescents, new study finds. Among Netflix shows and movies, <1% of pain episodes reflect chronic pain. @MelanieNoel @RomeGastroPsych
How does @netflix portray pain in media targeted towards adolescents? Not well, according to a new study from researchers at @UCalgary. Read all about it in my latest story for @MigraineCollab. #AusPainSoc @IASPpain migrainecollaborative.org/th…

Listen to @katebirnie on The Most Painful Podcast discuss what we can do about #ChronicPain in children in Canada🇨🇦 #ItDoesntHaveToHurt
In most of our previous episodes, we have had experts talk about chronic pain in adults, but what about chronic pain in children? There is a high number of children suffering from pain, but what resources are available for children? One organization is @KidsInPain (SKIP).

Pain is highly subjective and individual. Never judge anyone for what they feel.
If YOU had to rate pain intensity /100 due to a 48 degree celsius heat stimulus, do you think it’d be the same as other people’s ratings? How much variation do you expect? 321 people did this for a study - the lowest score was 4/100 and the highest was 100/100!

Words matter. Thanks @BethDarnall!
We surveyed 3,500 patients on the term 'pain catastrophizing' • 1/3 of those who had heard of the term said it was problematic or stigmatizing. • Of those, 12% reported stigma from the term. We concluded: "Clinician education on patient-centered terminology may improve care and reduce stigma." jpain.org/article/S1526-5900…

Important work on pain catastrophizing. A concept that is highly predictive of pain outcomes but has become stigmatizing. @RomeGastroPsych @DrPalssonUNC @drlauriekeefer
