“A geopolitical Chernobyl.” That’s the stark assessment of the US-Israeli war with Iran, from France’s former prime minister Dominique de Villepin. “What we see is a meltdown of the core reactor that is the US leadership.”

Amazing quote from Stephen Miller's high school classmate in this new Jazeera documentary on him: "Having grown up with him, it makes you realize that it isn't the smartest person you went to high school with who's running the country. It's the most shameless person."

Agree! The Capital Weather Gang (now just Capital Weather) was — well I don’t want to say the best thing at the Post, but it had to be the most popular/broadly used. Seems like it should’ve been a profit engine for the paper.
i dont, for the life of me, understand why the Post wouldn't find a way to keep this.

There's nothing funny about it, so I'll just say it's surreal to see U.S. commentators so totally ignorant of Belfast they don't grasp that many of the rioters are unionist/loyalist and would fight you for calling them Irish. They do not want Ireland, back or otherwise.
Kilmeade to an agreeing Markwayne Mullin: "In Belfast they're standing up because their leaders have let them down. They're trying to take their country back. They want to label them as racist. All they want to be is Irish. They want Ireland back. And that is what we've been saying for the longest time. I see a lot of the same fights here."

And yes it's kind of mesmerizing to think about the layers of this and immigration and identity and what any of it even means, Irish Americans who never understood anything about Northern Ireland now cheering for their "Irish brothers" against immigrants, there's a lot there.

Also, from the reports I’ve read, these are more like pogroms than protests — masked gangs preying on anyone who’s not white and burning families out of their homes. Disgusting behaviour to cheer on from a distance.

What control is he losing? At what point, since bombing Iran in Feb, has Trump been in control of this mess?
Replying to @alexbward
“Trump is losing control,” said @stevenacook, a senior fellow for the Middle East at the Council on Foreign Relations think tank.

Not Overheard at the Pentagon (b/c I am not allowed to go there anymore), from GWOT vet in response to the proposed Global War on Terror war memorial, unveiled today: "My idea was to have an eternal flame at the bottom of a big hole that you could just throw money at. That would reenact the war for me."

Imagine if the World Cup were all international good vibes instead of, you know, ICE and war and Trump.
The locals in Lawrence continue to support Algeria in Kansas. 🇺🇸🫶🏼🇩🇿

I know political coverage remains terrible bc I've been flooded with enough "political" coverage to know more than I ever wanted about both Platt and Platner (despite living in neither LA/Maine), but barely any of the coverage ever mentions what they'd do if elected.

I watched an entire debate on Platner that ranged all over public morality and his behavior with women and what voters want in a man but nobody ever said a single word about his positions on basic issues or contemplated why a voter might make a strategic choice one way/the other.

Do they address us this way bc we are idiots, or are we idiots bc we are addressed this way? Chicken, egg. Or maybe we’re not idiots and people actually want something better?

@Megankstack names the whole game here: "The Golan Heights was, until recently, Israel’s buffer zone against Syria. But now Israel has carved deeper into Syria and is moving to populate the old buffer zone with people who will be protected by the new buffer zone."
"These days, Israel is trading peace for land." I tried to take in the full picture of Israeli regional policy: On expansionism & Greater Israel, weakening & fracturing neighbors, the dystopia in Gaza & the WB, & whether the U.S. is deputizing Israel. nytimes.com/2026/06/08/opini…

Can’t believe I’m still hearing “testing ceasefire” “despite ceasefire” etc. There’s no ceasefire guys. There was a spotty, subverted effort to get/hold a ceasefire but even that is over. Iran & Israel are bombing each other. There may be a ceasefire later. This isn’t one.
