An innocent South African nurse from Mpumalanga was fatally stabbed by her former Nigerian boyfriend, who is now the subject of a police manhunt. The incident occurred on Friday, 1 May 2026, and has prompted charges of both murder and robbery against the suspect.
According to authorities, the suspect attacked his girlfriend, Sonto Mbili, inside her apartment and stabbed her repeatedly with a knife until she succumbed to her injuries. Sonto's mother discovered the body and reported finding her daughter lying in a pool of blood. After the alleged killing, the suspect is said to have taken several of Mbili's personal belongings, including her South African identity document, bank cards, driver's license, two mobile phones, and her red Hyundai Tucson with registration KS04PV GP.
Police believe he has since been using the stolen bank cards to withdraw cash from Mbili's account at multiple locations. The suspect was last sighted in Komatipoort, a border town in Mpumalanga province near the Mozambique boundary. Police have urged members of the public not to approach him and to report any information that could assist with his arrest.
