Aside from the inherent corruption that comes with the non-productive nature of politicians, the big problem with them is that they don't even criticize each other properly.
Anyone can look up the full quote from Trump here and see that he isn't actually saying he believes inflation is good. He is saying the inflation numbers aren't bad for wartime inflation, and will thus look good when the war is over. Which is technically true, but stupid to say for other reasons, such as:
-We shouldn't even be in this war in the first place.
-Trumps admin engages in as much inflationary spending as Biden did and has all but betrayed DOGE.
-The fed budget deficits have been as bad as Biden's as well ( $1.5~2 Trillion dollar range ).
-Before the War Trump was doing better on inflation than the Biden admin did, but still had yet to bring the rate down to the level of his previous term.
-Trump floats "ideas" for reducing spending and taxes and reducing the crony regulations that cause housing and healthcare to be artificially scarcer than they ordinarily would be, but then never follows up, and so costs for these two crucial resources remains high.
-The structure of the system has not changed.
Newsom could have chosen to criticize Trump's full statement using any one of the above as a basis for an accurate and correct attack on what Trump is doing. But of course, because his party is just as guilty of most of these problems ( and likely would make them worse ), he instead chooses to deliberately take the quote out of context and pander to low IQ votercattle who won't bother to understand the nuances.
In other words, he intentionally fails here because he knows voters remaining ignorant is good for his grift. That's why he makes a disingenuous political jab, instead of saying anything of real value.
