6 years ago tomorrow we lost my mom, Bedonna Weiss Perry. It’s still unbelievable to me that she’s gone. I think about her every day and how she’d help me navigate all the life I’ve lived since she left. She was the warmest and wisest woman I knew and boy did I take it for granted. What I would give to have her back for even an afternoon. Mom was a Harvard trained child psychologist with a PhD. But she’d never let you know it. She was so humble. She was funny. She was fun. She absolutely loved life and her attitude was always positive, but not in a toxic way. She really did just make life better. I honestly never knew a single person who didn’t like her. She was so smart. She had an insane memory and could remember every name of anyone she’s ever met, song lyrics from decades ago. She was so dedicated. When I started my first company, she read book after book on startups just so that she could converse with me about it. She’d drive me to meetings hours away on a weekly basis and stay with me in hotels just to keep me company. When I moved to LA, she’d fly out to visit me every few months. She could talk about anything with anyone. She was so cool. She knew every baseball stat, everything going on in politics, and could talk intelligently about anything under the sun. She was incredibly inquisitive and asked lots of questions. She really cared. She was fiercely loyal and loved her kids more than anything. And boy did she let us know it. There’s so much more I could say about her, but it’s making me miss her too much. Mom- love you so much, mom. You’ll be happy to know I’m still hanging out with grandpa. 97 and kicking! My wedding is in a few weeks and I know you’d kill to be there. I’m wearing your pearls and your veil. I’ll continue to carry you with me every day. Thank you for everything.

About two hours ago I sat next to a nice guy named Tom on my flight to Phoenix. We were chit chatting about random topics, and about 20 min I decided to sleep with him… Tom from 24F did not stand a chance against @elemindtech. He was completely out in 11 minutes. I’ll never forget Tom from 24F

I'm saddened by the passing of Craig Venter, a brilliant scientist and visionary entrepreneur whose partnership with the NIH led to the mapping of the human genome—unlocking new insights about ourselves and our common humanity. I'll always be grateful for the chance to know him and learn from him. His legacy will endure with every new discovery built on his lifetime of research and innovation.

I'm heartbroken to share that my friend Dr. J. Craig Venter passed away today. Craig was a brilliant inventor, scientist, entrepreneur, and rabble rouser. He was the first to sequence the human genome, created the first synthetic life form, founded multiple billion-dollar companies, and at 79 had just launched another one three months ago. I met Craig in 2013 and we stayed in each other's lives ever since. He invested in both of my companies and was a close advisor. A few years ago he asked me to join the board of JCVI — an honor that gave us much more time together. I'd bring him my wildest ideas in biology and he'd engage with them seriously — and then push them further. He was an inspiration, a legend, and had an incredible sense of humor, especially for a scientist!I'm so sorry for the world that he's gone — and so sorry for Heather, his family, and all the wonderful people at JCVI I've been lucky to know. Here's a conversation we had a couple of years ago about longevity and life: youtu.be/3H-lZXBmrM4?si=T1fC…
