I keep saying this but, it needs repeating. We have youth sports all wrong. Dr James Andrews- “Athletes ages 14-and-under should have a two-month break with no organized leagues or intense training, Three to four would be better. Do conditioning, flexibility and strength work."

One thing missing in so many programs today is the development of leadership. Kids have a hard time leading because they’re used to having adults control everything. We have to give up some control for leadership to develop. It’s hard for many adults, but very necessary for kids!

If you’ve got a daughter, sister, niece, granddaughter, etc…Get them involved in a good S&C program. I saw 7th grade girls practicing their squat technique at 7:45am this morning, 15 minutes before their 8am training session started. It matters to them.

No one tells you this at Uni (or when doing any other S & C course), but the majority of your time coaching is spent talking to athletes. I don’t mean talking about training, talking about life and other random topics. Your ability to hold a conversation matters.
The value of understanding your purpose as a coach rather than what your goals are as a coach……#LEAD @WDWconvo
Man… What a powerful quote!
