Police staff in England and WalesĀ offered 7% pay increase, says UNISON Ā
Police staff in most forces inĀ England and WalesĀ āĀ including those in witness support, data teams and cleaningĀ rolesĀ āĀ have been offered a 7% pay rise.
If accepted, the increaseĀ proposed byĀ the police staff employers* would take effectĀ from 1 September 2023.Ā
It means the hourly rate for the lowest paid police staffĀ would rise from £10.62Ā to Ā£11.46 an hour.Ā ThatāsĀ an increaseĀ of Ā£1,446 a year andĀ would see the lowest annual salariesĀ rise from Ā£20,655 to Ā£22,101.
In addition, theĀ police staffĀ employers are offering a 7% rise on payments toĀ employees who are asked to be available for work outside their normal hours.Ā This would see the hourly rates for 'standby' allowancesĀ rise from Ā£32.23 to Ā£34.49.Ā
UNISON isĀ recommending its members vote to accept the offer, which isĀ the sameĀ percentageĀ wage riseĀ thatĀ the government announced for police officers last month.
The union's police staff committee discussedĀ the proposed pay rise and decided itās the best that canĀ be achieved by negotiation.
UNISON national police and justice officer Ben PriestleyĀ said: āThis offerĀ recognises the vital role police staff play in keeping communities safe and helping bring offenders to justice.
āItāsĀ now up to police staff to decide if they want to accept the offer. If they donāt, the only alternative will be to ballot for possible industrial action.ā
