Students at Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU) Ibogun Campus took to the streets on Saturday in a peaceful protest against the alarming surge in armed robbery attacks on student hostels. In the early hours of Saturday, suspected armed robbers invaded multiple hostels, firing gunshots, stealing phones, laptops, and even a student's car, while injuring several students who were fleeing for safety.
Sadly, The protest was reportedly hijacked by suspected thugs and some community indigenes, leading to further attacks on students with cutlasses, bottles, and other weapons. Many students, including a 500-level class governor, sustained injuries. We urge the Ogun State Government, OOU management, the Nigeria Police Force, and community leaders to urgently address the insecurity in Ibogun and ensure the safety of students.
